The massive G.H Mumm Race Week wraps in Thredbo
Sunshine, champagne showers and Top to Bottom racing
Thousands of skiers and snowboarders hit the slopes for the G.H Mumm Race Week in Thredbo which wrapped up on Sunday. Visitors enjoyed perfect weather and spectacular racing conditions during the day while Après parties, including an explosive set from electro legends, the Bag Raiders, took over the mountains by night.
The massive weekend in the mountains kicked off with the Mumm Après Party on the Slopes on Friday afternoon at Thredbo’s Kareela Hutte with DJ sets and Mumm Champagne flowing well into the night.
On Saturday morning, the centrepiece of the weekend took place with Australia’s longest and fastest downhill race – the iconic Thredbo Top to Bottom. This year, over 250 competitors took to the Kosciuszko Express before dawn in preparation for the main event which runs from the top of Thredbo’s Supertrail to the village.
With freezing temperatures and perfect snow, the course was hard and fast as Olympians took on weekend skiers and boarders, some clocking up speeds well over 150km/h, as entrants battled it out for bragging rights and over $20k worth of cash and prizes.
On Saturday afternoon the fun continued at the Kareela Hutte Après sessions followed by a huge concert poolside at the Thredbo Alpine Hotel featuring electronic live act, Bag Raiders. As the whole mountain danced shoulder to shoulder from mid-afternoon until sunset, the electrifying beats, champagne showers, confetti cannons and G.H Mumm bubbles ensured the huge weekend became a highlight of the season.
This weekend the party continues in Thredbo with the annual Transfer Bank Slalom followed by a live concert featuring The Jungle Giants, Lime Cordial and Paper Hearts in Thredbo Village square.
