Default The coming snow system explanation - Eye on Oz

Below is my latest explanation of the coming system. Should be easy enough to follow.

By the way the North West is where the heavier snowfalls come from. The southerly ones are generally cooler but drier.

Heavy is the go! Thanks for the update. Wind here in Canberra this afternoon picking up from the North and forecast has it N to NW over next few days so it has the right idea.

It's that dirty pre-frontal wee wee that we don't like :( What are the winds predicted to be on Sunday at this stage?
Are we there yet?... Are we there yet?... Are we there yet?... Are we there yet?... Are we there yet?

Well it looks great to me. I have a sling on my left arm so skiing is out for me. But , sitting on my ass for a week after shoulder reco, I'm board.
, I'm trying to talk my buddy to go for a drive tomorrow so I can taste the fresh snow!
Skiing or not, you gotta love it when a big system dumps a kazilion tones of snow and you freeze your butt off ( and drink beer)

It's possible I just don't like saying 1m when maybe only one or two resorts might get that. Some may get 30cm so you then get people whinging saying you said 1m.

Cool air looks to be just before Adelaide so a fair way to go yet. Will the temp trends in here today to get a fix on how fast it is moving and the likely timeframe for snow to start in VIC.

Frozen rain currently hitting the windows at Nanook. It's been alternating between that and liquid rain all morning. At least we are holed up in the best accommodation in Thredbo

eta: make that a serious hailstorm now

Frog. Everyone is scared to predict a good dump and down grading is what every report is doing. This is like the system I experienced in 2005 when we got 60+cm in the village

We are staying positive here. Tomorrow is our last chance for a ski so we need at least 30-40cm overnight please.

But if not we will have to wait for Japan in January. And we do have a reservation at Knickerbocker tonight so it could be worse.
