Nokian tyres

I have decided to get some Nokian tyres for my Subaru Liberty GT as the original factory tyres are worn down after 55,000 kms, my only concern is how well they will last when used as a tyre all year round, I am slightly concerned about an increase in road noise also.
Anyone on here tried a set yet, I know quite a few from the snow sports industry have them fitted.

The advantages I see is much better grip in the wet and also for the odd trip I do to the snow during winter, I don't drive hard or fast so I am not after a race performance tyre, I am hoping these will be the perfect tyre for my car.

I will report back after I have them fitted and done some driving in the wet and on a highway.

Paul, I love my nokian snow tires on the Q7. I got them and drive all year round, travel between Canberra Thredbo repeatedly, and after 4 years I decided to get a new set, even though my old set are still good for another year, that's what the owner at tire power Jindy said. I have them in storage in case the unexpected ie blow out happens. The tires which came with the car only lasted 20,000ks, which is more like my husband driving as he really goes through them.

They are cheaper than the Q7 tires which were $1,200 EACH low profile boy rims, this year the snow tires were only $625 each and that is fitted with 10,000 free rotation etc.

You might find it hard to get them at this late stage, I had to order in my two orders and wait for them to arrive.

I went and tested my car with original tires on snow and ice and mush, sago etc could loose traction and not get up slight hills with those tires, next week I had the snow tires, did the tester in all conditions and nada. Trucked through nicely and very stable.

Rain and other conditions no problem. I am a very very cautious driver as I was badly injured in a car accident.

Friends have a Volvo like subaru and have snow tires they too are very happy and they drive between Canberra Thredbo Sydney etc.

Good choice in my opinion as you would drive the vic resorts.

Oh road noise, can't hear anything but that could be due to the fact it's a huge Audi.

Jax, you shop at expensive tyre shops!

I have an Audi Q5 with 19" rims and low profile tyres and paid less than $300 a corner. Good enough tyres, but not snow tyres (more referring to your $1200 for OEM jobbies, snow tyres are specialised here and will cost more!)

Had some on my Subie........ fantastic in winter, squirmy as on hot summers days.
Got about 35k out of them.
Ideally I would have had a 2nd set of rims with the snow tyres on them for winter and swapped back in summer time to my normal tyres. Maybe I drive a little harder that Skijacski
Would not use them again as a 12 month tyre

I am a soft driver, or is it careful, no sudden moves or going super fast around corners and no braking hard, well only if avoiding accidents etc.

My hubby has very expensive tastes in tires, but my car I choose.

He nearly took my car back to Canberra on the weekend as his tires were 'city slicks', not fond of driving his S3 quattro audi bullet as it is twitchy. I think I have convinced him to change to a Q5 as his next car, as my body is so decrepit at the moment.

The Tirepower boys at Jindy do a free take off and put your summer tires on, that is if you have them, I just dont see the need with my tires lasting so long.

I can't believe how well the Nokian tyres handle in the snow. Just effortlessly. They hang on so well that I struggled to get the stability to control to take over. I was driving on ice at Guthega the other morning and only realised that those dark patches on the road were ice when I got out and slipped over. I need some Nokian's for my feet, obviously.
Thanks for your assistance. The next set of winter tyres will definitely be Nokians.

Hi Richard,
I just have to tell you how great the new tyres are.
I am up at mt Buller and road is cover in snow and slush and the car drove through it like we were on a normal road. I have just driven up a friends unheated snow covered driveway for the first time in 8 years without sliding back down.
Really happy and feeling much safer.

Big sized tyres out here are ridiculous prices due to the low volume. I brought my last set (non snow tyres) in the US and shipped them. ($650 for 4 tyres - 245/20's (103Y's)and 255/20's (105Y's) plus about $400 for shipping). Far better than being quoted $1600 - $2000 for 4 at numerous stores around Sydney.

Sorry, until the tyre guys out take a leaf out of Paul's book and force some competitive pricing from their wholesalers I wont be giving them the business.

I have to agree, tyre prices do appear to be higher than they should, a good friend of mine with the same car bought his online and saved around 50% and he bought them in Australia, he could have got them even cheaper from overseas, he did the right thing by the local tyre outlets and asked if they could match the price first, I wish more of my customers gave me that option.

I am on to my second set of Nokian tyres, in my opinion they are worth every cent, having a second set of rims so they are only on for the winter months helps get more years out of them.
