<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Blyton Group has today announced the official re-opening date for Selwyn Snow Resort will be<br>Saturday 11th June 2022.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><br>‘All New In 2022’ will see the resort transformed for its grand re-opening, with the expected completion<br>of the significantly expanded and integrated ‘Selwyn Centre’ that will house all guest facilities and<br>services in the one building. The new Selwyn Centre will house an expanded Ski &amp; Snowboard Hire,<br>enhanced food and drink offerings and improved toilet amenities.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The 2022 snow season will also see the completed full upgrade of the New Chum Chairlift and the re-<br>opening of 100% of the resort’s skiable terrain.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The relocation and expansion of the Snowsports Learning Area will also be complete, with the installation<br>of two brand new dedicated snow carpets for guests to perfect their turns on.<br>The relocated and expanded Toboggan Park will also open in Winter 2022, offering the best tobogganing<br>experience in New South Wales.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em>This weekend marks the &#8216;Official&#8217; opening to season 2019, even though a few resorts are already up and running due to the best early snowfalls since 2000. We take a look at what lifts each resort are planning on running this weekend</em></strong>.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Perisher</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="820" height="400" src="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Blog_Internal_SnowCat.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-3624" srcset="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Blog_Internal_SnowCat.jpg 820w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Blog_Internal_SnowCat-300x146.jpg 300w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Blog_Internal_SnowCat-768x375.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 820px) 100vw, 820px" /><figcaption><em>Perisher&#8217;s groomers have been busy preparing all four resorts for opening weekend.</em></figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Opened last Friday with skiing and boarding on Front Valley. The V8 chair and magic carpet have been running all this week with a terrain park for those who love the jumps. The grooming team have been out preparing more runs for this weekend and we will see skiing and boarding at all of the four resorts that make up Perisher (Perisher, Blue Cow, Guthega and Smiggin Holes). The Terminal and Summit Quad&nbsp;Chairs in Blue Cow as well as the Triple and Double Chairs in Mt Perisher will be spinning with more lifts to be announced shortly. Great news today with the opening of the brand new Leichhardt Chair.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Thredbo</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="750" height="562" src="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/61621802_10155937741171582_6230436437553053696_n.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-3627" srcset="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/61621802_10155937741171582_6230436437553053696_n.jpg 750w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/61621802_10155937741171582_6230436437553053696_n-300x225.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption>S<em>nowfalls next week, low temps and the guns firing should see more lifts soon at Thredbo.</em></figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Friday Flat will be opening on Saturday for beginners to have a slide. For the more advanced the Cruiser chair up top will be running accessing the Merritt&#8217;s area.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Falls Creek</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="960" height="720" src="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/61746038_2523893324309031_8929751502516387840_n.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-3633" srcset="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/61746038_2523893324309031_8929751502516387840_n.jpg 960w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/61746038_2523893324309031_8929751502516387840_n-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/61746038_2523893324309031_8929751502516387840_n-768x576.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px" /><figcaption><em>Plenty of lifts running this weekend at Falls Creek.</em></figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This weekend will be the BIGGEST opening on record for Falls Creek! 7 lifts will be spinning this weekend:<strong> </strong> </p>

<ul class="wp-block-list"><li><strong>Halley’s Comet</strong></li><li><strong>Eagle Express</strong> </li><li><strong>Towers</strong> </li><li><strong>Drovers</strong> </li><li><strong>Gully</strong></li><li><strong>Mousetrap &amp; Pete’s Train</strong> </li></ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">

– opening up terrain to suit all abilities and offering the perfect chance to shake off the cobwebs and get your ski or snowboard legs back into action!

</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Hotham</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Hotham will be opening on Friday with the Audi Quattro Chair running from 8.30am. Hopefully after some snow next week and cold nights we can see more area opening very soon.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Mt Buller</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/20190529123002pm_MBJM290918-3-of-4-1024x683.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-3545" srcset="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/20190529123002pm_MBJM290918-3-of-4-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/20190529123002pm_MBJM290918-3-of-4-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/20190529123002pm_MBJM290918-3-of-4-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/20190529123002pm_MBJM290918-3-of-4-1200x800.jpg 1200w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption> <em>Buller Ski Lifts General Manager was excited to open the season early with a new chairlift and free skiing for the first day of winter.</em> </figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The brand spanking new Bourke Street Express chair has been operating since last Friday. This weekend Fox, Skyline, Bourke Street Express, Bourke St carpet and Mercedes-Benz will all be spinning giving skiers and boarders plenty or terrain to explore. Bourke St will also include some small jumps and features.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Mt Baw Baw</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="960" height="720" src="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/61538884_2464692666886260_8267478295776329728_n.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-3642" srcset="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/61538884_2464692666886260_8267478295776329728_n.jpg 960w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/61538884_2464692666886260_8267478295776329728_n-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/61538884_2464692666886260_8267478295776329728_n-768x576.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px" /><figcaption><em>Baw Baw was hammered by heavy snowfalls on Monday.</em></figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Mt Baw Baw has more snow than it probably has had at the start of the season since I can remember, and I&#8217;ve been forecasting for over 20 years. There was already a nice base before around 40cm of big fat flakes dropped on Monday. Lifts open for this weekend to be advised.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Selwyn Snow Resort</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="960" height="720" src="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/61557261_2963455273672087_112819213088849920_n.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-3644" srcset="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/61557261_2963455273672087_112819213088849920_n.jpg 960w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/61557261_2963455273672087_112819213088849920_n-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/61557261_2963455273672087_112819213088849920_n-768x576.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px" /><figcaption><em>Selwyn was the first resort to spin a lift for season 2019.</em></figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Selwyn Snow Resort was the first to open last Thursday with the New Chum Chair spinning, and well as snow play and tobogganing.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Charlotte Pass</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="960" height="758" src="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/62021365_10157280864324894_6019541233943183360_n.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-3647" srcset="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/62021365_10157280864324894_6019541233943183360_n.jpg 960w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/62021365_10157280864324894_6019541233943183360_n-300x237.jpg 300w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/62021365_10157280864324894_6019541233943183360_n-768x606.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px" /><figcaption><em>Charlotte Pass opening early in 2019.</em></figcaption></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Charlotte Pass usually opens a couple of weeks after the official opening weekend but this year due to the excellent early snowfalls will be running the Kosi Triple Chair to the top accessing plenty of terrain.</p>

<p>We have are nearly at the end of the school holidays for the Victorian kids and in the middle for the NSW. We have a fantastic weekend of sunshine coming up and the crowds will no doubt flock to the mountains and make the most of the fantastic mid July conditions. Enjoy while it lasts as next week will be a totally different scenario with snow on the way.</p>
<p>Monday should see the clouds start to move in and we could see some light snow showers at times, nothing to get too excited about. Early Tuesday should see the winds start to pick up and clouds will increase during the day in the Victorian resorts with snow starting to fall in the afternoon. Snowfalls are then likely to increase into the night and then extend into the NSW resorts with blizzard conditions overnight and carrying into Wednesday as the snow level drops a little with snowfalls extending throughout the mountains. Wind chill will be well into the double figure negatives about the peaks so if you are on the hills then make sure you dress appropriately. To the parents of kids racing in interschools competitions that have to stand around and wait for races it&#8217;s a good idea to add an extra layer underneath for yourselves and the kids.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_2430" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-2430" style="width: 819px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-2430 size-full" title="snow on the way" src="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/short-term-outlook-14-07-18.png" alt="" width="819" height="677" srcset="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/short-term-outlook-14-07-18.png 819w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/short-term-outlook-14-07-18-300x248.png 300w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/short-term-outlook-14-07-18-768x635.png 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 819px) 100vw, 819px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-2430" class="wp-caption-text"><em>After a sunny weekend things take a turn next week.</em></figcaption></figure></p>
<p>Snow showers should continue on and off across Thursday and Friday before clearing. The resorts look like being left with around 20-35cm with the <a href="https://www.snowatch.com.au/15-day-forecasts/falls-creek/">Falls Creek</a> and <a href="https://www.snowatch.com.au/15-day-forecasts/hotham/">Hotham</a> likely to do best.</p>
<p>To those on the slopes have a great week, take care, keep warm and always ski/board with a partner as visibility will be low.</p>
<p>Chains will more than likely be needed around the Victorian resorts late on Tuesday and then throughout the mountains in NSW and VIC on Wednesday morning. Throw a tarp and some old gloves in with the chains so you stay dry and your fingers don&#8217;t freeze.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_2432" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-2432" style="width: 960px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-2432 size-full" title="jindabyne traffic" src="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/jindy-traffic.jpg" alt="jindabyne traffic" width="960" height="584" srcset="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/jindy-traffic.jpg 960w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/jindy-traffic-300x183.jpg 300w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/jindy-traffic-768x467.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-2432" class="wp-caption-text"><em>With fine weekends forecasts there will be the usual traffic bottlenecks like this one at Jindabyne.</em></figcaption></figure></p>
<p>Of course the great news is that the snow will eventually clear later in the week and we should be in for another cracker of a weekend with <a href="https://www.snowatch.com.au/15-day-forecasts/">blue skies forecast</a>. Crowds will be up again next weekend making the most of the fresh snow.</p>

<p>Season 2018 is about to change for the better in a big way. The Juice is about to be put back into June. It may be a week or so late and we didn&#8217;t quite kick off the season the way we would have liked last weekend but fear not, a dump is coming.</p>
<p>The first of a series of cold fronts moved across the mountains Tuesday morning. It was only weak and dropped a little snow up high and showers on the lower slopes. That was expected so no need to worry. We will see some light scattered snow showers across Wednesday and Thursday with the snow level starting to drop.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_2256" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-2256" style="width: 796px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-2256" src="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/juicy-june-sat-image.png" alt="snows coming,juicy june,snowatch" width="796" height="365" srcset="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/juicy-june-sat-image.png 796w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/juicy-june-sat-image-300x138.png 300w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/juicy-june-sat-image-768x352.png 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 796px) 100vw, 796px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-2256" class="wp-caption-text"><em>A series of cold fronts will dump plenty of snow on the NSW and Victorian resorts this week.</em></figcaption></figure></p>
<p>Things really kick into gear late on Thursday with heavy snowfalls and blizzard conditions overnight and into Friday with decent snow falling for most of Friday to low levels. This should give us enough snow for the resorts to groom and get some runs open for the weekend which is great news. Don&#8217;t expect a lot to open up quickly as it takes time for ski patrol to safety check and mark obstacles.</p>
<p>The snow will continue to fall on Saturday and Sunday with another front crossing the mountains. The snow should start to clear later on Monday and by then we should see anywhere from 50-70cm&#8217;s in the resorts (<a href="https://www.snowatch.com.au/15-day-forecasts/">check the daily Snowatch 15 day resort forecasts for amount updates</a>). The snow will compact a fair bit so don&#8217;t expect to see the actual snow depth anywhere near that.</p>
<p>With cold temps from Thursday through to Monday we should see the snow makers in full swing with all guns blazing for extended periods (even days at a time with temps likely to remain below zero).</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_2257" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-2257" style="width: 683px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-2257" src="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/snowy-road.jpg" alt="snow on road,icey road,snowatch" width="683" height="374" srcset="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/snowy-road.jpg 683w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/snowy-road-300x164.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-2257" class="wp-caption-text"><em>Roads in and around the resorts will be snow affected Friday morning and through the weekend.</em></figcaption></figure></p>
<p>If you are in the mountains during this time be careful on the roads as they will be snow affected on Friday and through the weekend. Chains will more than likely need to be fitted so make sure they fit and also that you have someone in the car that knows how to put them on (a practice or refresher before leaving is always helpful). Having a tarp to kneel on and an old pair of gloves so your hands don&#8217;t freeze is also a good idea.</p>
<div class="mceTemp"></div>
<p><figure id="attachment_2263" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-2263" style="width: 683px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-2263" src="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/snow-chains.jpg" alt="snow chains,snowatch,snowy road" width="683" height="229" srcset="https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/snow-chains.jpg 683w, https://www.snowatch.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/snow-chains-300x101.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-2263" class="wp-caption-text"><em>Throwing in an old pair of gloves and a tarp to kneel on will make putting chains on much easier.</em></figcaption></figure></p>
<p>By early next week things will be looking great in the resorts and we should see quite a few runs and lifts open for business, don&#8217;t expect too much too early though. The <a href="https://www.snowatch.com.au/long-range-forecast/">long range outlook</a> is also very good for more follow up snowfalls, so June could really be a &#8216;juicy&#8217; one.</p>
