Default Why arent they running the snow guns at thredbo?

Seems like a bit of a waste of the cold weather, with opening weekend around the corner...

I've been wondering the same thing, they won't have anything open for the opening weekend at this rate. I think I'll contact them to see what's going on.

Do they wait for ground temps to get to a certain temp?

Normally they would have started the same time as the other resorts (with Perisher usually a bit earlier). I emailed yesterday afternoon to Thredbo media but no reply as yet. Seems very weird as I really can't see much more snow being made at all between now and opening weekend, which would mean Perisher will have skiing/boarding on front valley but no skiable snow at Thredbo.

Another day of cold temps and no snow making! you'd think they'd be pumping it out on Friday Flat... could be a technical problem? Can't wait to hear.

Technical problem sounds more logical rather than a cost saving exercise. It's so important to get some snow on the ground as early as possible for those heading up in June.

Having snow on the ground when it falls naturally has a massive impact. With the cold temps they could have opened Friday flat and merits area next weekend too. So strange.

They might be busy as they have their Winter launch media night in Sydney tonight.

Surely the snow makers and automated snow guns aren't going to Sydney
It might all be washed away in a few days but that's beside the point, go big or go home.

I would think with this ECL forming and the rain it is going to dump perhaps someone thought to hold back. It could be looking like a good business decision now.

Looks like Thredbo saved a bunch of money, all resorts snow will wash away this weekend. Looks like no skiing/boarding for opening weekend and beyond unless it dumps late next week (which is unlikely)

Would have been epic if the temps were cooler when the ECL arrived.
Could have had .5m of snow instead of 300mm of rain.

That's due to it's high elevation.

I have a soft spot for Thredders. When Crackenback is top to bottom with a nice decent fresh cover - it's hard to go passed it.
