    Default Canada airfare question

What should I be expecting to pay for a discounted airfare to Canada? I haven't had much luck finding cheap ones and am trying to plan ahead for possibly the end of this year. I would prefer to avoid China Airlines and fly AC but don't know when they offer (if any) discounted airfares and how far out from the season they do this.

Ideally we want to go school holidays, White Xmas and come back late Jan. Taking out kids out of school set them back a bit with their early learning. Kids will be Grade 2 and 3 when we plan on going.

welcome to nor-am xmas air-fare prices Chucky. Nose blled terroritory.

I reckon you'd be doing well to score one any less than 2K per adult. After all, why would an airline offer discount seats on routes that are generally full at this time? I'm not saying they dont turn up occassionally but white x-mas in the us or canada the airfares jump and the accom price can go completely silly. I havent found a cheap alternative as yet either.

i was quoted just under 2/adult for the same period this year through an agent. You have to package it with some accom though and also pay before July.

OUch! 2K is out of our price range and may have to seriously rethink options. I have to buy 6 flights so it gets quite expensive. I was hoping if we left early enough in Dec we might get some lucky cheaper tickets. The other half is not as keen to fly out in Feb when flights go down because of the schooling issues. THe other family we are going with are of the same opinion.

a friend of mine found that flights before Dec 15th-ish were 500-1K cheaper than flights after, though that was to London and 08. Perhaps check out dates prior to the 13-15?

ours were $1800 & $1900 via air canada to Calgary. I've seen $1400 to Kamloops/YVR.. you have to look ages ahead.

What the???? All these quoted prices seem very cheap! We went on China Airlines for $2100 each (taxes inc) to Vancouver - we paid $400 (tax inc) each for fares from Vancouver to Kelowna. Our friends went through a travel agent and paid $3100 (tax inc) each on AC to Kelowna - with accomodation packaged special price. Nothing cheaper unless you leave a week before school holidays start (8th Dec). Maybe people are quoting the one way fare price??? Remember to look at the price with taxes, as they can be up to $700 per person, depending on the airline. As you know, we left on 28 Dec and came home on 19th Jan.

We are prepared to take the kids out earlier at the end of the year as it looks like we will only lose a week of school rather than the first few weeks of the new year.

I priced up the other day the following
Brisbane to LA (dinsey for the kids)
    LA to Vancouver/Vancouver Kamloops
Kamloops Vancouver/Vancouver Brisbane and was quoted $2218.82.

The flights were a mix of Qantas, Alaska Airlaines and Air Canada.
As The flights for next December are not out yet my trravel agent did this as a estimate but mentioned that it could be out by a couple of hundred

Hopefully if we are wanting straight to Vancouver it will be a cheaper flight. Expecting the Bris to Sydney jump to be annoying but eh at least now i think we avoid a US stop if we go AC.

the most I have every paid if $2600 and that was when the AUD is low against the CAD $2200 to $2400 is about right including taxes.

Just got a new quote from Air pacific via LA to Vancouver of $2200 including taxes only issue is you have to do a Fiji stop one way but you can fly Qantas on the direct leg so if we use the fair we will just do a few nights in fiji on the way home
