the scheme is looking good frog..

My only issue would be with the links. You can't tell whether there is a link or not in a post, maybe change the colour or add an underline so it stands out...

    cheers.

    Gday,

I am interested in doing some backcountry hiking and riding around the Mt Buller area. Not sure where to start or who to talk to.

    Any Suggestions.

Could always join one of the mountaineering clubs, RMIT and Melbourne Uni have some. If your older, there are various hiking clubs that do ski/bc touring as well. Shame not many cater for snowboarders yet though.

    Hi all

The back country to the immediate left of Merrtis chair at Thredbo looks sick and ive always wanted to rip it. Does anybody know how long it takes to walk out / and how hard the walk is to the carpark or where ever else you can get out

Do you mean right of Cruiser chair, out of bounds, steep. This is when you are going up the chair.

It is very unstable this year, patrol have been out there nearly every day setting slides off.

It is called Stanley's and you can make it back in if you know how. It can take snowboarders 3 hours to get back to the resort if they go to low, you can also end up at the rubbish tip. However, patrol will take your ticket if you do not have the appropriate gear, backpack, avi, shovel, ropes etc.

I was just the other day discussing it with Patrol and their desire to make it a 'gate only' entrance.

Only problem is that there is a massive river and water way. One year we nearly lost a guy who we told, DO NOT SKI INTO THAT PART, but he did as he could not understand why not, well he learnt the hard way, luckly someone had ropes etc with him and he was pulled out.

Better place is Leatherbarel, longer run, sweeter snow, killer climb back out.

Stanley's this year does not have enough snow lower down.

was worried about lack of snow and creeks. does it all just funnel into the one spot or do you have options on how to get out? I think im gona do it later this year cheers. Look out for my tracks late August

roo, you are talking about out of bounds and unpatrolled areas which are steep, rocky, subject to slides (avalanches) and often end in cliffs, waterfalls and creeks. Don't venture there alone or without someone who knows the area. It can take a long time to find bodies there in the spring (if they bother looking).

Taxman. I appreciate your concern. Although if options like Stanleys existed so close to any other resort around the world it would get skied after each pow day regaredless of Patrols or difficuly to get out.

But you are right I do not know the area and saftey is a definate concern for me. ( i have been trapped under snow once before and dug out by my mate who heard my screams so I do know the terror it can bring.
One that note would you like to escort me and my mate down stanelys sometime this year? We are experienced backcountry boarders, not deep backcountry but have done plenty of day hikes whilst OS
If so I'll bring the weed..

roo, would love to take you, but I haven't skiied Thredbo since 2006. I'll do Twin Valleys next week, but that is after skinning from Charlotes.

Just remember this is not up high enough to get a solid catchment of snow. That is why it is so dangerous. It also suffers from melt, sun and snow cancer.

Such a short bit of yahoo - now Taxi you have it right, you might find me out there too!

Just drove back from Jindy and looked at the twins and they are looking good.
