Oh Paul. We in the Governmint abolished 'stamp duty'.
You can't buy those lick-one duty stamps after we brought in a cash register imprinter and abolished the 'stamp duty' Act.
So there is no 'stamp duty'.
There is of course a new "Duties Act" but duty is different to stamp duty. Trust me, I'm from the GovernMint.
Yours truly
Sir Humphrey Appleby

I just got my renewal for the shop, the fire services levy, stamp duty and GST are more than the actual policy fee, the state Governments are out of control with regards insurance.
I thought when the GST was introduced Stamp duty for the states was supposed to abolished, and the stamp duty is more expensive than the GST.

I've noticed it on many properties - CFA levies etc add substantially to the cost.
I drink, therefore I am. Ummmm?

People used to get tax deductions for council rates on residential homes, money paid to the doctor, and even their mortgage repayments on the house and the holiday home. But that was in the 1950s.
Now its 'tax everything' plus 'user pays' service fees on water, power, parks charges, etc etc.
I wonder how much is left over in pay packets to keep an economy rolling after you take out taxes and these hidden user-pays 'taxes'.

Well somebody has to pay for backpackers to put new insulation around your manhole, or just flip over the old insulation.
