Smigs to the ridge
Outta curiosity has anyone skiied off the backside of smigs/mt piper over to the ridge chair at blue cow. I know there are cross country tracks in the area but thought it might be something different to try(mind you not particularly steep). I would imagine you would also have to cross the creek at some point.

Your probably right there jd. I just remember one of the years I was staying at peer gynt near the north p tbar there was bucket loads of deep goodness (mind you was mid august and snow depth was good all round that year) out on the back side of mt piper and I thought it might be fun if the conditions were right. Perhaps if mother nature delivers a meter dump between now and the first week of august I'll try it out for you. :-) :weneedsnow:

I think there was a marked trail in years gone by, and they called it Highway 86/ I believe there is a gate up the top of Hume or Burke/Willa T. i'd be keen to give it a go!

Re: Smigs to the ridge
I've heard it referred to as the hume highway, and it was a marked run years ago (not sure when it stopped being a marked run) but yeah only possible when there's decent snow, bit like the runs from top of summit over the back to guthega, only possible when there's enough snow as it faces north so gets hit all day by sun

Re: Smigs to the ridge
Used to ski it years ago. Not a bad little run. But you can only do it if they make the snow bridge across the creek between the road from Guthega from Smigs ( closed in winter ) and the ridge quad. Which they don't seem to do anymore. : (
You can't tell which way the train went by looking at the tracks.
