actually Vet thats a great deal...howver I prefer to drive it , it's a 1 day trek from truckee/tahoe , hotels are cheap there in winter (the rates are triple what they are during ski season from may thru sept due to the proximity to yellowstone/teton nat. parks) the cheapest way to go is fly in to Twin Falls and rent a car (JH is about 90 mi) and book a package stay at Snow King that includes lifts tix to JH/Targhee...But the rates they are offering on this package would be tempting If I lived in one of the "flyover" states...

Fyi, Jackson is offering 'deals' like $US969 pp for 4 nights ski in/out, 3 days of lifts and a flight from Chicago
It doesn't 'add up' imo to arriving in California for 1 week's accom at $US420 (resortime.com) to $650 at Heavenly, just a 1 hour drive from Kirkwood with their $199 early bird 6Wood pass. The Frog is a Prince

Yanks pay 3x more to go to ski resorts in summer??
I've got a family so its 3 airfares to the US at the rip off school holiday rates, air to JH, wasted time at airports and driving, and 3 packages.
In contrast, I've got my prepaid club accom at Squaw (one bedroom), Vista (studio), or 2bedroms at any 1 or 2 at Stagecoach, Park City, Winterpark or Steamboat. So far, the best value is 2 weeks at SV and 2 weeks staying at Heavenly just 1 hour from Kwood. For the Vet's, the accom and 2 early bird season passes each = $US4,800 for 26 days on snow with a jeep. That = $US62 each per day. The Jackson '4 nights, 3 days' deal is $US333 a day. I can't see value in that.
In fact I have a almost-free midweek in the july school holidays next year for 2 adults and 2 kids with breakfast served by waiters included. $130 a day is what it cost, but there were private lessons, 2 massages, cinema and skiis for Mrs Vet in the deal. But lifts for 5 days will still cost $1k, parking $250 and oversnow $90. The US or Raphaheau is cheaper.
I gotta give up skiing here. I can't afford all this free stuff

Take the airfare out of the eq and it's about $100 a day which from chicago is still a good deal...it's not a good deal from here tho thats why I drive...(also I like to bring Suzie-Q, and flying w/ a coyote don't cut it) from here you can book a 4 night stay w/ tickets to either JH or Traghee for about 300-400us not bad , not great but man is it ever worth it...one of the most beautiful places I have ever been in winter...

From LA to Twin Falls Idaho
- the air travel is 4-7 hours (+ check in time etc) and
- the sample fare (using expedia and Jan 2010's rates), was $$US300-$US400 return pp
- plus $80 pp for a lousy ski bag and suitcase.
Add 10% to 40% for fx fluctuations and for that money that'd pay for flying return to Japan on a Jetstar sale flight. For 3 of us, $US1200 is a flight across the Pacific.
I might be cheap but I ain't stoopid. The Frog is a Prince

and travelnevada.com (Nevada Tourism Commission) has a snowbomb offer of $79 pp to stay at a casino in Reno and ski Mt Rose. Harahs Reno has 2 adults at $67 per room per night x 4 nights and it includes 2 lift tix to either Squaw or Northstar. Nothing like competition to ski cheap but often.

I gotta get ya out there sometiem , it'll cost about 200-300 in gas round trip from Truckee/Tahoe and split that 4-5 ways and its about 40-50 bucks a head, it's a one day drive, and everytime I leave I'm thinking why the heck am I diving there when Tahoe is right here, and once I'm there I know why I came !!.... It is a must Visit destination for any serious snowsports enthusiast... But yeah flyin a family there ain't cheap...

"Once I'm there" in our case is after.
18 hours 'door to door' from Melbourne to LAX, LAX 1 1/2 hours getting through LAX, then to Southwest's terminal, wait 2-3 hours, then fly to Sac 1 1/2 hours, collect bags, get car, and then drive 2 hours to Tahoe.
Then there'd be 2 days driving, return, out of a holiday, to JH.
Then there's added expense because I've got 4 weeks of school holidays and 4 weeks of prepaid accom.
I'll ask my wife
