I'm going around the world starting Jan 23 for 10 weeks.
I have four weeks in the USA but confused about where to go. I am pretty satisfied with what I have seen of the US. I would like to eventually do two road trips across America but saving that for when I am older (currently 29). I've spent nearly a year traveling the US and seen heaps.
For my next trip, I have four weeks in the US, landing in LA and taking off from NYC. I was thinking of two days in LA (do some shopping because it's so much cheaper even with the weak AUD), 7 days in SLC staying with a guy I met at the pub who said he'd put me up. He's a groomer at Deer Valley. He said he would get me free lift tickets etc but I only snowboard but there are other choices in the area, 7 days in Vail - my boss from the snow said she'd put me up if I ever wanted to visit but I have been there before, 9 days in Banff - I have lived there before but going back to visit friends, 3 days in NYC and then heading to Europe.
But is that too much snow resorts? I do like to see the sights and do a couple ski resorts but I've done so many now.
I have found some cheap airfares too with only two flights of the four charging for checked baggage. The total for LA to SLC to DEN to Calgary to NYC = $751.96 USD inc taxes and checked baggage.
I haven't been to Texas and wanted to party in New Orleans but I heard it hasn't been the same since the cyclones etc. I've done up and down both sides of America otherwise I would be doing that because that was a lot of fun!! (Roadtrips!!)
I was going to Spain for a week but I'm hooked up with a Swedish bird so I'm thinking of changing that to Sweden and see the non-tourist parts of Sweden. Then a few days in Frankfurt. Not much to see there but I was there earlier this year and then only thing I missed out on that I wanted to see the Rhine Valley and Frankfurt. I went to all the other cities.
I've then got 5 weeks in Japan and China. I was thinking of visiting some friends in Japan ski fields for a week, spend a week making my way to Beijing and then doing a 3 week tour from Beijing to Hong Kong and then back to Sydney.
Any comments about this trip appreciated!!

If you do SLC you may be able to scoot south a bit and visit the Bryce Canyon and Zion NP areas or alternatively head east and visit Arches. If the weather is right you can explore some very nice areas and do them as a day trip. For example Delicate Arch at Arches is possible in winter if the snows aren't too bad and there are plenty of drives and short walks through the park that give you more options.
Zion NP can be icey and Bryce will more than likely have snow as it is quite high. Then again if you aren't into this sort of thing just outside SLC there are plenty of snowmobile parks as well or go back to just boarding your heart out at the myriad of options you will have.

I've been to Vegas a couple of times now and the Grand Canyon. I heard New Orleans hasn't been the same since the storms.
I'm going to look into some tours of Bryce and Zion.
I really want to add a few of things in otherwise it's just going to be all ski resorts and as much as I love ski resorts, I want to see other things too.

Phooey. When a bear is chasing me and Taxman, I don't need to outrun the Bear, just need to outrun TaxiOriginally posted by BlueHue:

Ok so on top of a little avi preparation you'll also be needing a touring buddy who is slower moving than you as insurance should you get chased by a bear, good plan

Nup I would just knock-out Taxi and then go for you as well. You would be better getting a young succulent (possibly fat) ski buddy as you two old fogies would be tough and chewy.Originally posted by Vet:
