Manfrotto May as well start at the top!
My only advice is to avoid flimsy tripods as you'll get camera shake.
Actually, that's not my only advice! Take your camera along when looking so you can stick it on the mount and test the sturdiness of the tripod

Any brands I should look out for. Have a small camera bag about the size of a normal day pack and it has a spot for the tripod on the back but it looks awfully small.

Camera site check these guys out (they ship australia wide but have pick up points in Sydney and Brisneyland) they have very good pricing. I just got mine from them.
that said what kind of camera do u have???
As Pod's said i strongly recommend Manfotto i have one and pretty much anyone whos seriously into photography does. theyre pretty sturdy and all parts are replacable if something wears out. I've been told not to get a giottos cause they dont compare.
you want to make sure your tripod can support the weight of you camera and any telephoto lens you wish to attach to it. And like Pod's said u dont want a flimsy one that will blow about in the slightest of winds.
also if you dont have one already u may want to invest in a remote for the camera to get those nice long exposure shots with out having to set the timer on the camera every timeIs out of the sling :WOOHOO:

Yes thanks. Yeah I want a good one. I have a gift voucher for Photo Continental up here so am going to head over this afternoon.
I have a Nikon D80. And I do not want a flimsy one. My old broke where the extension from the tripod part extends up to give u extra height and the parts cannot be replaced.Do it the snow way!

If you've got a cheapie tripod, make sure you pack a shopping bag with you - fill it with sand, dirt, water whatever to give extra stability when shooting.
