All this talk of hoto choo has me wondering where the best ones are.....

For me I would say the Virgin Cafe at Happo has the best that I have had(so far). In Oz, I do love the Pretty Valley hot choc with the wafer and freckle.

oooo, in Kuchan in a tiny little milk bar where they melted blocks of japanese chocolate into the milk. When it's minus 15 and dumping blankets of snow outside a cup of this with a side dish of marshmallows and chocolate bars is really all a person needs to have faith in life.

in oz, Merrits with a hit of peppermint schnapps (no cream) was my fav until I was introduced to the pretty valley chair cafe. I am certain they put chocolate cream on top. After much analysis, Xena, brat and I think it is made with ovaltine, but the chocolate freckle and the wafer balanced on top of two marshmallows just make it a real treat (not to mention fun music and friendly fast service!

It is hard to go past a $2 hot chocolate at mid station before 10:30am. You also have the chance of bumping into random snowatches. :D

Funny thing happened at Mid station on Sunday.
We ordered about 29 past 10 and got our hot choccies! Staff serving said to us we just made it and I commented how we lucky to make it!! :D

Then while sitting enjoying the view and hot chocs a lady started complaining loudly about that she had to pay full price as they said she ordered after 10.30.

Which would have been the case as we were there with 1 minutes to spare.

She said the clock above the door near the entry to food section said 10.29 when she ordered the staff said that clock was wrong and that they go by the other clock??
She was very annoyed and cranky!!
She had a few kids and I supposed wanted the cheaper price.

A few minutes later a staff memeber was up on a ladder changing the clock that was different to all the others...I suppose they wanted to avoid that situation in the future!!

I wondered if this is a frequent problem??

The Frais hot chocolate that they used to make at Huski lodge at Falls Creek. It was like eating liquid chocolate.

it may not be the best in the mountains, but..

Avalanche Cafe in Thredbo do a "hotshot" named after the photographers that order a hot chocy with a double shot of coffee, best accompanied with cherros (long skinny doughnut) it comes standard with whipped cream and marshmellows. It's survival liquid when standing for hours in freezing conditions in wet clothing and no gloves.

My personal morning starter is a "chilli mocha" it took a few weeks for them to get it just right and only one barista can do it.

Virgin Cafe, top of the gondola at Happo, Hakuba, Japan. Hands down, the absolute best, nothing else comes even remotely close over here. Will now go to bed dreaming of those little paper cups of lucious, chocolatey, heavenly goodness.

Can't beat the hot choco in a can in Japan. Especially when it's minus 15. One in each hand does the job. ;)
As for how they taste. Who cares once your hands are warm.
