Not that i want to but discussion came up about this at the pub on Saturday night. No one knew the answer but a mate has a smicko caravan that would be very comfortable to stay in for a cheap weekend in the snow. Was thinking off pulling off somewhere between Jindy and Thredbo (below the snowline).
Is it allowed?

Camping in tents is allowed at Ngarigo and that other spot both just past ski tube on the alpine way, there's Sawpit creeek cabins and camping on the perisher road.
As for caravans... no idea. possibly only in jindy if you can get a spot.
Ring up NPWS in Jindy to ask

I'm sure you can take a caravan to Sawpit Creek.

Caravans no, tents yes, back of large vehicles yes, you would not get the caravan up or down the road to either camping areas.
This week I saw a RV stuck on one of the roads into the camping area. Some people put their beds.... loose term.... in the carpark at the train carpark, but inside the National park you will be told to move on.
i wouldn't want to be in a caravan up that high in some of those 100+k winds. but have stayed in JD's chalet a few times quiet comfortably but thats in Jindy
