Swede will feel my pain
Last night I witnessed one of the most inept, hostile and totally useless display by our mates up here in NSW.
The night unfolded like this.
I catch the train every night home to Thirroul. (Northern suburbs of Wollongong). Journey about hour 15 or so.
Problem was last night the track was closed through the national park, due to fire and flood. It occurs a couple of times every year. When this occurs its buses from Waterfall.
Now I accept this isn't Cityrails problem. It happens.
But damn howabout telling us there is a problem while we are on the train? So we can make alternative arrangements. No information.
So we get off at Waterfall. Its Chaos. 1000 people easily crammed on the station and up a ramp. Lined up for buses. Everything is orderly.
Then another train turns up spewing forth more people. One of the numerous suits (there were 6 Cityrail bigwigs managers etc there) tells everyone the line is open again and the train will be going down south, so naturally everyone that was lining up crams onto this train.
Meanwhile I arranged a lift from a mate on a train behind me.
Then the station master gets on the loudspeaker."This train terminates here, all out". Its a near riot as everyone rushes back to claim their privileged spot in the queue. The suits start arguing with the station staff. The transit officers try to calm down the irate punters. No one has a clue whats going on.
Then another announcement, the line is open the next train to arrive on platform 2 is going south.
Meanwhile a train arrives on platform 1. A south coast train. Do you think they opened the doors to let the passengers on.?? No way. 200 People waiting for a train to take em home and the screwballs wouldn't open the doors. So the train left. Leaving 200 bewilded passengers, waiting for a mythical train or a magical super bus.
By this time I had enough. I pointed out to a few of the passengers they could have got on that train and they'd be half wway home by now. Quite a few people started to get understandbly p^$$ed. Then we started on the suits. They had no idea. Couldn't grasp the concept. Even the transit officers were on our side. It was a 5 way barney.
Then one of the suits approached me and threatened me in a hostile and sarcastic manner. Basically telling me to get the hell off the station. Gee I must be a troublemaker. To top it all off when the mythical train arrived 15 mins later to pick up the 200 or so people left on the platform. It stopped and terminated. These poor people who had been waiting were now being bowled over by the 1000 people getting off. Lucky my lift was on that train. Same situation everyone lining up for buses.. Elbows and angry people. Then "this train is proceeding to the south coast"...so so many angry people getting screwed around by misinformation. Too many 100$$ K suits with absolutely no idea.
