The corporate and inter club challenge, for 8 to 80 year olds, is on again: details see www.snowexpo.com.au. (http://www.snowexpo.com.au.)

Registration is usually on the Friday night, 21st August. But if you can't make it, I can collect your race bibs and take them to the course on little buller spur on the Saturday.

The hit'n'giggle race is of teams of 3 or more.

the race is on Saturday 22 August.

Taxman and I might be joined by some from 'the dark side' to make up a team.

There's a party and presentation on Saturday night. Historically its been at the Whitt.

I might be able to get bunks.

Package A: Race and social is $50;

B: Package A plus day ticket is $130;

C; Package A plus 2 day ticket $195: which effectively means the race and party are free.

If you're interested, ....

My annual Buller pilgrimage. Well worth considering for anyone north of Mexico. The drive from Sydvegas isn't too bad (did it the last 2 years), but $145 return fares from Qant@rse have made flying the go this year.

Taxi and I will be leaving my place near Warrigal & Toorak Rd Friday morning if you need a lift. I'm returning him to the airport on Sunday (and then collecting the family and driving back up for interschools). Do you need a lift?

Have you got accom? If not, how many beds do you need.

I'll pm my name so Stuart Worn can record us as a team.

We need a team name, guys.

Taxman was ripped off by Qanta$ compared to this:

Air New Zealand.

Depart San Francisco 5.52pm on 18 August to LA, then to Auckland New Zealand then to Melbourne Australia (arriving 20 August with the international date line)

+

Melb-Auckland-San Fran on 24th August

is $A860.

That's under $US700 Hairfarmer.

OR

Qantas San Fran-LA-Melbourne returning Mel-LA-SFO $A923.

Crikey, you better visit NZ and Oz.

And yes, I'd pick you up at Melbourne Airport.

You'll be fine. There's a few ex Olympians, 82 year old Bill, a bunch of 75 year olds, super fast teens, old ladies and we mere morals.

Its just a great way to meet new people, and have a few drinks. As a snowboarder, you'll probably come second anyway and get a trophy. On second thoughts, can I borrow your board??? :D

I can't find the thread from 2007 which had more pics that 08's thread. Maybe Taxi can

Glad your set for accom.

And because a team's age category is based in its youngest member, I'll be young again.

The Age reports that my old 'foe', 80 y.old Nick Regos, is in the Epworth after tackling a 2m jump off a rocky outcrop on Powderkeg.

He hopes to recover in time to ski the northern hemisphere - all of it - for the umpteenth consecutive year.

Good one, Nick, ... and thanks for ensuring my final placing will be one spot better.

We might be joined by an ex Europa Cup lady racer and some from the Aust Winter Olympic Institute. :D

BSL will open Holden Chair at 8am.

The free intra-resort shuttle to Ski School on The red Avenue Route, starts at 8am.

Course Inspection is 8.30am-9am.

The race is supposed to start at 9.15am.

Billy, you me and Taxman might be racing with some ex Olympic types so it doesn't matter if you snowplough (or whatever boarders do). And you can miss a few race gates if its foggy and no one sees you smile.gif

p.m your phone # and your surname and we'll discuss logistics and copllecting your lft ticket. I'm waiting on the organiser to get bsck to me

Vet
11-08-2009, 07:33 PM
Ok, spoke to the organiser.

billy, give me a call.

If you bought the lift package, I'll be holding your ticket so we'll have to meet up on Saturday morning. You'd arrive at Horsehill Carpark, take the free bus to the village. Then walk 20m to the intra village bus stop. Then catch the Red Route/Avenue/Ski School bus to Holden Chair. Then you me and Taxman head to Lt Buller Spur.

Don't forget this is just fun.

But will you stay for the presentation party that usually starts at 9pm?

Billy
11-08-2009, 10:42 PM
Just PM'd you Vet

Vet
12-08-2009, 07:00 AM
I pm'd my mobile and landline # to you. I'll call you during the day.

The entry form is on www.snowexpo.com.au. (http://www.snowexpo.com.au) Fill it in and send it off with card details or a cheque. If you wait too long, they charge a penalty fee.

I'll collect your race bib and lift ticket on Friday night - or there might be accom for you and yoiur +1 on the mountain for Friday night and Sat nite (but it won't be as cheap as sharing a motel in Mansfield)

Re accom, I'll call you and make some calls.

How's this sound

I might move Taxman and me for both Fri/Sat nights in with a doc who rents a flatette from a club.

That'll free up my room (2 single beds, ensuite) elsewhere. But because Taxi and you and your +1 aren't members, the two clubs will probably charge something extra. I'll find out more.

Ok, we're meeting Billy at 8.30am at Holden.

A pal has a 4 bed bunk room but his son and daughter might not be coming up. Hmmm.

Vet

We're joined by some pretty fast guys and gals. A veritable 'who's who'.

Billy, the organisers have your real name (but not your real age!!!!!) and, trust me, a lady never never discloses her age. Winning IS everything. So when you put in your form, lie about your age. Trust me, I'm from the Governmint.

Taxman's age has been depreciated too. :D .

Billy, sorry for the delay:

tis you, me, Taxman and another person I can't name here - and we're 'in' for a run in the Cross Gender or Cross Discipline category. But I'm not entering us in any cross-dresser category.

If you and your girlfriend need 2 beds, call me. I can bump Taxi and I in with The Good Doctor if need be.

Trip report

On Thursday nite, Taxman arrived from Sydney for the corporate and interclub races. We headed up to Mt Buller on a bleak Friday and we planned on getting a race coach for the afternoon except every lift, other than Chamois, was closed due to wind. Oh well, we headed across to my favourite place and dined on Noble One sticky wines, ports, beer, reds, and about 3 courses. I think Taxman earned a lot of Amex frequent flyer points.

By 9pm he was too sozzled to sing Karoake, but I wasn't. I really sound terrible when I'm sober though.

Awoke to blue skies at 6.30am. I woke sleeping beauty up. We ate big - I figure gravity gets me better race times. We caught the shuttle and hooked up with Billy. Taxi took her to the race and I headed off to get some gear. Bourke Street was almost sheet ice. I was a little concerned what the race course would be like.

But LBS was perfect. The sun shone. The man made stuff was perfect. The course was suitable for the mix of old ex Olympians, those who pulled out of Whistler, some ex Europa Cup racers, kids, grannies, and wanna-bes like moi.

Billy looked stoked at her first ever race.

I think she's hooked.

Taxi and I headed over to the usual Saturday race followed by 3 courses, reds and a lot of socialising.

At the presentation, we hooked up with the Squaw Valley Patrollers and heaps from Melbourne Uni - dressed up as super heroes- and University Ski Club. (Squaw next year is going to be a blast).

After another late night, (gee this skiing is tough), Taxman finally took advantage of my inebriated state. He sold me this snowatch sticker for a fortune! Luckily the sticker comes with a free pair of Stockliis.

we were invited to ski around the hill and used the ski school lane.

LBS was sealed off by the patrol and Wombat was gorgeous until it filled with punters. Two or three blood buckets carted off punters in the time we were there. The poor sods had to aim for a narrow trail so it sorta got filled with bodies. Oh well, it goes to prove Charles Darwin's theories again.

We headed across to Emirates where, per sq foot, there were fewer people and more brain cells.

We finished up around noon and the drive back was very easy. Taxman was baffled by signs along the Hume about Land Tax, Pipe Dreams, Development taxes on farmers, and why Mr Brumby has so many cameras on the Hume. Well he needs to be richer, Taxman.

Taxi was dropped off at Tullamarine long before I thought we'd get there. (Getting home thru footy traffic was murderous though).

Overall, it was another great inter corporate and club race and it looks like Billy is hooked. Keep the 3rd weekend in August in mind next year, Billy. And stay 'on the hill'.
