Well I hope I don't have a slide. It's my resolution to keep my two feet planted firmly on the ground in 2011. ;-)

As mentioned in a previous thread I'm heading down for a few days to do some walking. At the moment I'm leaning towards coming down 31st of March and walking from Friday 1st (dates can poss move if anyone is interested). I'm looking to either do a circuit from Charlottes which is an overnighter http://www.wildwalks.com/bushwalking-and-hiking-in-nsw/kosciuszko-np-south/charlottes-pass-main-range-loop-camping-at-mt-townsend.html
otherwise if I get some other fool hearty folk then there is a 42km circuit from guthega that's listed as four days but I would say it's a comfortable 3 day.

So if it's a two dayer that leaves us back for Sat night in jindy for drinky poos and a touch of fishing on Sunday morning otherwise the longer walk sees me walking Fri, Sat, Sun and then driving straight home.

Hopefully some folk can join me!

Edit note: dates changed

oooooo sounds fun coops, but I generally snaffle a ski if I head south and can't justify too many trips this year :-(

Possibly, but way too early for me to make plans. That is the start of school hols btw.

True! I was looking at my calendar thinking they were on the next week but of course they start that weekend. Daft I am sometimes!

Perhaps the week before might be better then- Friday the 1st of April. I haven't booked in a date for baby sitting yet (thanks mum). I'll change the date in my original post.

No stress about committing now. I appreciate its a long way off. I'm more throwing it out there as logistically I need to book it in so I can get the little man minded on the Thursday and Friday whilst +1s at work. Then I'll be counting down the days yippee. It will be almost 3 years to the day when I come down since I've done a longish multiday walk. Anzac long weekend 2008 I did the six foot track and then was pregnant two months later. I've been on mummy duties since :-)

Right! Well it's official. I will be coming down on the 31st of march to walk Friday, Saturday (and depending on the walk I choose it will either finish sat which leaves me free for a drinky poo if any locals are about :-) or I'll do a three dayer and finish walking Sunday and drive straight home).

I'll be driving down Thursday lunch time from syd. I'll prob camp at thredbo diggins, island bend or kosci retreat depending on where I start the walk from.

If anyone has a fav two-three day walk they love then suggest away. Also JD I may have to offer you a beer to give me those co-ordinates for the camp spot you suggested ages ago :-)

Oh and I'll be packing my rod too for a spot of fishing :-) now if only I had a packraft as that would be an awesome way to exit the mountains :-)

BTW I'm fairly sure I've read it somewhere but does the NPWS rent out PLB/EPIRBS. I usually just borrow a mates but he's moved to Melbourne. Hmmm I really should just buy one.

Excellent kaz! Hopefully you can join us.
I'm pleased to say baby sitters are organised (both sets of grandparents have a day each). My girlfriend from uni (whom I often used to go on great long adventures with) will be joining me. Tis always nice walking with another Chiro. We sort each other out at the end of the day.

Plan is we are driving down Thursday. Prob camp at kosi retreat or jindy that night. Doing the main range circuit Friday and Saturday departing from charlottes pass. It's only 23kms so that leaves plenty of time for exploring all side tracks and can bag a few peaks (or get into camp early and start on the muscat...either way:-) Saturday night we are going to camp at jindy and hit eboshi for dinner and head to the pub. Anyone around that's free please join us. Sunday morning we are going for a fish before driving back home (not before a quick refuel at surges).

Sounds like bliss to me! Can't wait.

Mind you the walk plans are obviously not set in concrete so if anyone is coming along and has some good recommendations or an absolute desire to walk somewhere then please feel free to suggest. I'm not being a nasty trek warden, I just thought it looked like a nice, easy way of getting around the mountains and seeing a few spots over the two days.

Eboshi and fishing are definite's though! mind you I'll be flexible on the pub (can even visit them all if you like :-)

Howdy doody.

Just thought I'd resurrect this thread seeing as we are getting closer to the date (fitting my other backpacks harness to my friend was a good reminder :-) hopefully some fine snowatching folk can join us.

My friend and I are booked in to stay at Jindy both the thurs and sat nights. If anyone in Jindy can't catch up for the walk then hopefully we can catch up for dinner/drinks on the sat night.

Cheers

Mic

Hey Coop, NPWS does indeed rent our EPIRBs, you can get one in Jindy or Perisher (mon-fri). I will be around that weekend so might be up for a walk or a beer

Super Pini. Hopefully we'll catch you for a bevoir and or a walk.

I've actually recently bought a SPOT2 so I won't need to rent an EPIRB but thankyou for the heads up :-)

Can't wait to get down there.

Howdy.

Just a reminder if anyone's around and wanting to head out. Were setting off from charlottes on Friday morning, doing a leisurely circuit and returning Saturday arvo.

The plan is then eboshi n drinks on Saturday night and surges for breaky on Sunday. Skichick I'll give you a bell on sat arvo when we get back to town. We will be out for dinner and a quiet bevy on Thursday night too if around (nothing too big. I hate walking with a hangover :-)

Can't wait to get down there tomorrow.

How did it go Coops?

It was just gorgeous thanks Trish. We had a wonderful time. The weather was simply stunning and our little camp spot perched between mt kozi and mt Townsend was just perfect. I'll put some pictures up soon. I've just got to upload them from the camera to ze pc. My knee held up well which was great too. A nice test before winter comes around. That's one box ticked. When I did my knee I said I wanted to walk up and then snowshoe up Mt Kozi within 12 months. Can't wait to get back down their and do it again when it's covered in white goodness :-)

My friend and his bridal party ran the main range on the morning of his wedding. Insane. Left the hotel at 7 am back by 11 am.

Ha! Yes there was no running on my behalf...more a meander. Top effort though. Mind you I must say we meant to meander but actually went at a cracking pace which got us into camp at 1. But hey that's ok we were both considering going up Townsend, but then opted to lounge in the sun on our mats and drink wine :-) T'was a lovely afternoon really :-)

Right! This may take a while due to being on my phone.

The weather was mostly gorgeous though the clouds swallowed us up at lunch time.

Seamans Hut. It was nice to finally go here (though also upsetting) as it was nice to finally see the memorial for my friend who was one of the four snowboarders who perished near by in a snow cave.

And a final shot of the snowy on the way back out

As you can see we were absolutely spoilt with the weather. Simply stunning (though my fair skinned girlfriend is still paying the price for not wearing sunscreen on the first day ;-)
