just reading news.com and found this horrible story. Hope its not true

THERE'S no need to order in another load of firewood - the rest of winter from August to October is tipped to be mild across the whole country.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting warmer than usual temperatures.

Anyone who wants to go skiing had better get moving now - days are tipped to be warm and nights mild as the green shoots of an early spring appear.

Queensland, NSW and Western Australia are forecast to be unusually hot, but all regions will be warmer than normal.

Check the latest conditions at Weather CentralWarm water in the Indian and Pacific Oceans is responsible for the gentle weather forecast.

It might be warm but it won't be wet. Much of eastern Australia is in for dry conditions over the next three months, the bureau says.

Queensland will be especially dry.

This is consistent with the bureau's forecast that an El Nino weather pattern is on its way.

El Ninos sweep in from the Pacific and usually bring hot, dry weather to Australia. Experts expect one to hit later this year.

I saw on ABC News and again this morning on TWC the heavy snowfalls in Argentina, including parts of the country where it rarely snows right down to sea level. I suppose this is one of the systems that Frog is referring to in his forecasts???. Looks to be a doozy at the moment.

It was beautiful and sunny in Thredbo, I even got down to a long sleeve (I was at the bottom of merritts chair), shooting races. But the snow wasn't affected, even down that low, at 11:30 it remained dry.

Do these figures stack up?

Bestflights shows Melb-Christchurch return in late June at $308Aud x 2 ppl = $A616. Add $A150 for a motel over a weekend in Methven. Add $A30 x 3 days car hire. Total $A856

Weekend in a motel-like flatette at buller at circa $700, $68 for 2 in oversnow fees and about $40 in resort entry. Total $808.00.

And which resort gets snow in an El Nino period?

It can be warm and dry all month but all it takes is 2/3 days of dumpage from one storm in the middle of it all to make a base that will keep the season going through September!
