Southwest have a 3 day sale, eg $30 (+tax) between LA and Reno for travel over January to mid Feb.

And your Heavenly passes will 'work' at Northstar and Sierra (except on Saturdays, 15 & 16 Jan and 19 & 20 Feb), both N* and Sierra being about (I think) 1.5 hours drive from Sth Lake Tahoe. For kids, the official summary says 'Teen and child passholders will have access to Northstar and Sierra. (There's no blackout dates for kids and teens?).

Vet, will you have a car up there, if not, I'll drive up from SF. Otherwise I'm thinking of Amtrak (Zephyr) from SF to Truckee.

Yep I'll have a Ford Focus 'or similiar' - ba5tards changed my SUV to a Charger which might'nt have a fold down rear seat so I grabbed a Focus for 20 days ($A578 incl insurances).

Let me know when you're in Truckee and I'll come get you. Of course, if its dumping on the road and uptop, I might get uum stuck in traffic :)

For those with the ski lake tahoe vouchers to a mix of 7 resorts, I received this email 'answer' to a query whether the vouchers for Heavenly can be used at Nstar, and if the vouchers for Nstar will be usable at Heavenly :

" no, a Heavenly Six-Pack voucher will not be redeemable at Northstar-at-Tahoe, nor will a Northstar-at-Tahoe Six-Pack voucher be redeemable at Heavenly".

C'est la vie

To cancel Southwest flights, use "Travel Tools" on the top right of their webpage. Then go to 'cancel air travel'. They'll let you use the refund for future bookings so make a note of the cancellation number. Then book your new/same flight for $30 + $10 tax.

We've just rebooked the same seats for $40 (instead of $102 each), and still have $260USD in credit for future flights

So i can say our trip is just a wee tad over $10k for 3 for 5 weeks :)

:p

Hey, the $400 refund from Sthwest + replacement air fares at $40 pp are nice, and leave me with funds to book other flights, eg in 2012. Our SCV club crew get Nstar and Sierra added to their Heavenly passes for free. I might get a refund on the Nstar season pass or be given an upgrade to an Epic Pass. We get 50% off backcountry split boad rentals, some discount with Pacfic Snowcats. Free passes (Sugarbowl I think) in a 'swag kit' from snowbomb. 10% off renting demos, 1 free rental day, $37 day tix at Bear Valley or $55 day tix incl demo gear at Bear valley which is somewhere near Yosemite if I get bored watching waterfalls. I'm happy:D

Where are the good deals for Japan?????

For a couple, a place in Nozawa want $2200. That's for 9 days of lift passes and a motel-style room for two. Add $1400 for Jetstar and a shuttle, and the total cost (excl meals, spending money etc) is $3,800 to 4k.

On the other hand, the motel below for 11 nights + $800 for lifts + air = $4,050k.

Sam,

We got 4 weeks in a 3 bedroom + loft Condo, 15mins from Heavenly for $2800. It sleeps 10, could you imagine staying in Sth Lake Tahoe for $280 per person for a month! its awesome.

We stayed a little further out, just because the place was so beautiful, and hell I wanted lots of room to hang out and enjoy my holiday :) ahh bliss

Nice one!!!

For us:

55 days to decide if we get season passes at Xmas for Oz in 2011. Lil Vet will be in Year 11 and mum wants her to hit the books.

64 days to trip 1 with passes to Sugarbowl, Kirkwood, Squaw, Heavenly, Alpine Meadows, Rose, Vail, Beaver, Breck, Arapahoe, Keystone, Nstar and Sierra ...and Sth America if need be.

144 days til the March/April trip.

Heavenly/Northstar Pass: ($379 for adults, $309 for teens and $199 for children).

Hey BB

In an effort to simplify blackout dates for Northstar and Heavenly pass products, Heavenly will lose its Thanksgiving blackout dates and Northstar will lose its MLK blackout dates.

Both resorts will simply stick with the two blackout periods that they already have in common (12/27/10 - 12/31/10, 2/19/11 - 2/20/11). So the Heavenly Pass goes from nine blackout days to seven.

"Good news - you are in for a set of refunds. If you have Double Whammy passes + Heavenly Passes, and you want to move into and Epic pass, the pass offices at Northstar can get you going on your refunds/upgrades.

The best way to get that process going is to call their pass offices at 1.800.GO.NORTH.

Let me know if I can be of any further assistance,

-Scott"

I just got off the phone to Northstar. They refunded me $359USD because I can ski there free on my Heavenly Pass.

And Vaust changed our flight - we're arriving at 8.30am, instead of 5pm, on a Melb-LA direct non stop flight. That's brilliant because wwe can get to Tahoe on the same day.

LOL! I really thought I bought a booklet of 1/2 tix when the $A was 80c, ...but I didn't.

Anyway the deal was sold out in September so, I thought, bad luck, I've missed out. But I have more front than Myer - and they've just offered me a booklet .... when the $A is 98.5c. God bless America.

Wrap your skiis in a blanket - in case you need a blanket in the car if you're stuck on a snow-clogged road.

Basic winter tips
• Shovel around the gas meter and don’t let snow pile up.
• Have plenty of flashlights – with working batteries.
• Stock up on canned goods before a storm just in case that semi doesn’t make it to the grocery store with a fresh supply.
• Keep a good supply of candles on hand.
• Four-wheel drive does not mean being able to stop as though the conditions were clear and dry.

• Carry a blanket, water, food, extra clothes, and a shovel – especially crossing a summit.

I just found out a place in Vic is advertising for a head chefs, a second in charge chefs, 3rd ranking chefs, 4th ranking chefs and a bottle washing chef to sserve 1 dinner or lunch to 70. No wonder our food costs a bomb.

How's this for a place, with 480 seats inside, 280 seats outside and a few dozen staff to stop, have a drink, and be served a bbq steak or chilli.

Diamond Peak near Reno has $25 day tix for those with a season pass at another resort, and 50% off a one day rental if you show a boarding pass to SF, Sacrasmeno or Reno. Its small but I'll have a look.

Mt Rose has free masters race classes on Thursdays and Fridays iiirc.

Sierra has a guided free 1 hour bc trek to Huckleberry Canyon, and a free shuttle (but its $10 if you're a no show) from Sth Lake Tahoe.
