View Full Version : Canberra airport
If you got in to Canberra quite late at night like 10pm or 11pm, can you sleep in the airport somewhere till daylight??? Are there any comfy areas or would you get kicked out?

NOPE it is very small!!! I don't think they have flights overnight, even Qantas Lounge closes. ...
i got into canberra the other week on a friday afternoon and it was like being in a jammed box of sardines
that airport - especially considering its our capital city - is terrible!

loc, You should see Qantas lounge on Friday afternoon at 3pm. There are more people in that lounge than people standing at the gate!
And if you get priority baggage flying into Canberra going in peak, don't bother. EVERYONEs luggage has a priority tag! All these Government people ;)
I think they are trying to expand it though .... Bear ??

"This means an investment of $350 million in Canberra Airport's "AirVolution" which will see world-leading new aviation facilities and create 1350 jobs.
"And this infrastructure will deliver an economic boost into the future, driving growth in the tourism and transport economies, not only in the Canberra Region but throughout Australia as we come online with full international capabilities including immigration and customs by the end of 2012," Mr Byron said.
Mr Byron said by the middle of next year, the things that have annoyed travellers about Canberra Airport would be gone. "The long exposed walk to the carpark will be gone. Instead there will be a four-storey carpark with completely covered access to the terminal and no roads to cross allowing passengers to safely and swiftly move to and from their flights.
"The long taxi queues on a windswept footpath will be a thing of the past with Australia's first fully enclosed taxi rank which will feature television screens and other amenities.
"Whether you live in Canberra or whether you are a visitor, the focus of this new airport is about the experience of our passengers and this new terminal will be the best in Australia and for its size probably the best in the world," Mr Byron said.
The new carpark, apron hardstand to park more jets and the Southern Concourse Terminal will be completed by the middle of 2010. The remaining works including a new Western Concourse Terminal will be completed in 2012 subject to planning and finance approvals.

I am pretty sure I'll come on Thursday 27/8 night now. So, I'd love a lift and can give petrol money to anyone who wants to help moi. I was thinking I'd have to get a bus in the morning.

in a 5 minute city.....
I got a similar response when I visited adelaide recently... was told that they'd moved the event to the outskirts of adelaide and it would take a while to get there, so allow time when booking my flights in etc.
it was only 30 minutes from adelaide city centre! graemlins/big_laugh.gif
I thought there was a travel lodge or something near by? the diplomat isn't far, but a taxi ride, no idea of price, work pays!
locals should be able to suggest something closer? Fyshwick is closer than Queanbeyan or canberra central

if you need a lift somewhere from canberra airport to somewhere in canberra etc then it could be arranged =]
you can't stay in fyshwick and if you could I wouldn't ;p
Queanbeyan is not to bad, but be picky when it comes to the hotel you pick (the hamilton is good), if you would consider queanbeyan then really kingston is not that far either.
Thanks Altheau - you're a gem! Shall let you know if I need to take up the offer.
