Can anyone recommend inexpensive but clean and kid-friendly overnight accomodation in Jindabyne. Want to make a day trip next week from Canberra but have to take the kids with us. They are too little to get up early and ski all day so wanted to drive up after school, get dinner and skis in Cooma and crash in Jindabyne for the night.

How many kids do you have? If more than 2 it is often hard to find a family room that is affordable even off-snow.
We have stayed at the Snowy Valley Resort, Kosciuszko Road, East Jindabyne before. Affordable, family rooms with bunk beds - bit out of town. Bunk beds may not suit you though if your kids are too young to sleep like that. Worth giving them a call to see what options are available.
Haven't stayed there for a few years now, as we prefer on-snow
Another cheapie is the Siesta Villa in East Jindabyne. Stayed there once too, a few years back. Includes dinner/breakfast - nothing flash but enough to get by. The rooms were clean enough, spartan, and old.
I'd rate Nettin (well) above Siesta Villa.
I don't know if either will take a one night booking; that may be a more pressing issue for you.

Kookaburra lodge is where i used to do a one nighter if I was coming in and staying up on the mountain for the week and wanted to make a full day of the sunday. Cheap, neat, comfy but it is big communal bathroom (but that's no biggy plus from memory it was a super shower). Really close to nuggets crossing and they even have a little indoor pool for the kidlets. They often don't man the phone but leave a message and they get back to you.

Siesta has had a pretty major overhaul so now most of the rooms are amongst the nicest of the mid to low range hotels/lodges in town. The prices have gone up too
