Last few times at perisher there has been low level cloud/fog/mist whatever..
I have a cheapo pair of Scott goggles, was wondering if an expensive pair of goggles ($250 -$350?) would make much difference to visibility in those conditions?
At the moment can barely make out what is snow and what is cloud... Is that normal?

It's all in the lens penguin! Normally a Yellow coloured lens will Highlight everything a whole lot better than say a grey lens! Good goggles should come with two lenses of different types to suit both cloudy/low level light and Sun/high level light conditions! It's just a matter of puttin in the one to suit and carryin the other with ya on the mountain for if/when the conditions change!
Middle of the spectrum type lenses are also available! Just grill ya local Snow Shop!
Hope that helps?

I have the best goggles money can buy and yesterday with misty rain / fog at Hotham they got a fine film of water over the outside of the lens and it made it much harder to see, so the answer is no, dearer goggles are probably not much better in those conditions. In a white out though my goggles would be much better than a cheaper set.

I definitely recommend a decent pair of goggles (but you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for them). Sure some of them will cost alot but sometimes I feel your paying for the brand.
Alot of them will have on their websites what spectrum/conditions their lenses are used for so perhaps have a look at something like the Oakley site to get an idea of what lens your looking for.
As mizu said alot of them will come with two lenses that you can interchange so once you know what lens type your looking for it's then a case of heading to your local shop to have a play.
They are a bit like helmets it will be a case of what fits best. I have the dragon dxs and I love them.
Plus if you wear a helmet take it with you to make sure the two are compatible.

I polish the outside, of the lens of my Goggles, with Rain-X to solve the problem with excessive moisture/rain. (only after they have been cleaned with a mild detergent solution first, and dabbed dry)
Howdy Coops! Have ya put that new pack to the test yet?

Howdy mizu! Sure did (sorry for the off topic). It's a brilliant pack. One of the best made pieces of equipment I've struck in a long time. Double thumbs up

Is that the one with 2 vent open/shut 'switches' (front and back)?

Hmmmm. I know it has a vent switch. I think only one switch but it seems to control quite a few vents. Grumble grumble shuffles down to garage to check it out from nice toasty warm bed ;-)
Edit: just checked. It has one switch towards the back on the top of the helmet and there is 12 vents. I do recall one of them has two switches. Which one I can't remember. You may have to try the giro website to see. I just found the g10 sat on my noggen well and was comfy. Always best to try various models. I just like the fact it feels solid yet is nice and light so no strain to have it on. :-) happy shopping!

Sorry to add to the derailment! but....
Hey coops I see you removed the visor. I did then put it back on and it helped with on snowy days keeping the snow off the goggles and on sunny days the sun out of my eyes. I met a few female ski instructors at Perisher who also had the new G10 too and kept the visor on for similiar reasons. Did you give the visor a try?
PS. I also loved the g10 for comfort and fit and my head and ears were toasty too! The vents are fab and lots of cooliong when it was warmer or I was working hard! LOL!!

Must say I forgot all about it. I loosely tried it on then took it off and forgot to put it back on when down there. I must say you see lots of helmets now with the visor. I am headed down next Saturday and will take it with me as more variable weather is on the cards. It was a blue bird day last Saturday. Just gorgeous. So I prob didn't think to attach it.
I agree. Seriously comfy, toasty (without being hot) helmet. Plus I didn't notice any wind whistle with the ear pieces which my last helmet did.

Pricey goggles are better in a larger range of conditions, but with goggles there are no guarantees in bad weather...one fall and you can be destined to have fogged up lenses all day.
I use Smith Prodigy with a sensor lens 90% of the time and then on super bright days I go to a platinum lens. Many people swear by the Carrera Kimerick with the rose lens for all conditions, I tried them and cant say I could split them with the Smith Sensors, but I prefer the fit and look of the smiths for my noggin.
For me, I reckon Oakley are over priced for what they are and both the Smiths and Carrera's are built better with better lenses IMO.
Try on any goggles with your intended helmet as that will make a difference to fit.
