Pi55ing with rain here at DP
Terrible in Thredbo. That curse word is in ubundance and in the last hour of lifts Skiers left of HighNoon and Supertrail vanished.
On a good note; Little Beauty was groomed this morn and open.
Many prayers will be said tonight. I hope most of you will drop to your knees, burn something ski related in sacrifice so I can take PP on the hill tomorrow (keep the wind below 80km)
Looking forward to hearing more from Vic resorts.
Just starting spitting rain here in Jindy

I don't think it will be cold enough to snow for quite some time, nearly daybreak in NSW.

Somehow I think +50cm is looking rather unlikely now, but ya never know:unsure:

We do, but whenever we see the rain symbols, the optimists amongst us think, 'Some rain, but just maybe it'll turn to snow'.
Sorry frog, we should learn to listen by now...

Going by the AWS at buller, it has had 20mm of precip since the temps went subzero. Hotham and Falls 10mm. Roughly equates to 20cm and 10cm of snow already. The main part of the system hasn't even hit yet. :snowalert:

Been on the hill most of the day.
I'm trying to get my new system working so I can get some vidz up. I will try some iPhone photos now.
The snow was heavy on slush or dirt we even had a creek crossing on the Traverse to the home trail, the creeks and falls were flowing heavily and spectacularly.
Right now; (when I started writing this) It was falling as 10c size flakes now 20s and 50s and not really falling some are going up and the hand rail has 10cm at 1370m (Thredbo river - Riverside)

It's currently 6deg in berridale and there is under 100m difference between it and jindy so I would imagine jindies in the positives. The rta is often a good indicator as it says were chains required from etc...shuffles off to look at rta website :-)

Sounds about spot on. There was 9.2mm of precipitation this morning before 9am that was in sub zero temps. However some of that wouldn't have settled much due to the very wet conditions. Since 9am till 9pm tonight the gauge is registering just over 22mm (so 22cm of snow). At around 4pm the gauge was sitting about 10mms and I know perisher said in the report at 3 that there was 11cm? I think. SOOO the point of my waffle is at a guess perisher to 9pm tonight have had around 25cm give or take :-)
Edit: this waffle is based on the perisher bom gauge which is from memory on the valley terminal. So perhaps more up top??

Sorry kids - was dark when I left tonight at 6pm. Had to scrape a good 10cm off the car tho and thought I could get down without chains - he he he! 100m later - faffing with chains! Best moment was scooting along in a straightish bit near Clover Arboretum at 80km when the slab of snow on my roof slipped off and covered the windscreen for a few moments - heart stopper! Oh and it was still snowing pretty consistantly when I left. Its gonna be a great weekend :) Mine starts on Friday! Or make that Thursday night...

You do know driving down the hill with snow on the roof can get you a fine for an unsecured load, scrape the snow off before you cause an accident as it slides off into a car coming up the hill.
Its very cold and very wet here in the Riverina tonight, could be some excellent falls in the mountains

Nope did not know about the fine/unsecured load. Gotta say I've never had so much snow on the roof before - will certainly do it in future cos just like the Frog it scared the **** out of me. Mind you I have seen plenty of cars with roof loads on that road lately - scarey!

Watching a doco on the Discovery Channel about blizzards - can only dream of one like these. 2-3 metres of snow over a week or two in these monsters in the northwest US.
Can any of the weather buffs here tell me if anything like that is even possible here? What would it take in terms of temp and moisture for a storm like that to hit us?
The chances are remote I know, but just curious...
