Hi guys,
I was wanting to see if anyone had done some of the half day tours (like through wilderness sports jindy) to get a taste of the bc experience. From peoples experience is there any one tour better than the other and what are the good areas to try for first time back (slack) country skiiers such as myself. I know wilderness sport do areas such as the paralyser, mt Wheatley and ramshead. Any thoughts and reccommendations greatly appreciated.

Tom Gellie was doing AT and Tele guided tours out out Charlotte Pass (CP had a bunch of AT gear for hire as well). Tom is a great guy and great instructor. Only problem is Tom is not working for CP any more, having moved to Thredbo.

Or you could organise a BC SW slide.....I don't really have the time but depending on the weekend, one of us who have been out there before might be able to attend.

JD could be onto something. I looked up a few prices (sorry can't remember at the moment, try googling wilderness sports or Thredbo has some backcountry tour prices buried in their website somewhere) and almost spat my coffee out.
If BC SW slide happened on dates I was available I'd be happy to show one or two spots to a small group as I'm fairly new to touring so have done a few easier tours close to the resorts over the last couple of years.

Thanks guys.
From my perspective my trip in august will be an odd one simply as we have a little one with us. My parents are coming with us so I will only get them to mind him for a couple of days and we may throw him in the creche if we choose to do anymore days so at the moment I have no set days/dates on the slopes. However if people were out and about on the Saturday the 6th of august then I would definitely be keen.
On a different note what are peoples thoughts on first timers. Hire AT skis for the day or alpine treckkers and skins for the day on your own get up. What are peoples thoughts on the treckkers. I appreciate it's much heavier to use your downhill gear but for a shortish play near the resort what would people recommend? Cheers guys

I would be up for a late season outing. Perhaps a overnighter at DHG?

Cheers guysTreckkers are OK for short distances out from a resort, but like you say Alpine skis, bindings and boots are heavy, hiring a lighter setup and going with a guide to show you how to use it would be much better.

DHG = Awesome!!!
very easy hike up - maybe 1 - 2hrs to find a good camp site - makes sense for a weekend trip
prob 1/2hr from campsite to LBC and some wicked lines and long runs
some awesome tree runs on the way back down to the car - maybe less than an hour to get back
sure it doesn't have the vert maybe of Mt Twynam or the steeps of the western faces - but you know 4-5 hrs hiking to get there?? + the hike out....
but i reckon it rocks esp for a mixed group riders - something for everyone

OK, well, if you want flat and boring stuff that will probably be quite tracked, go with cabbage. Personally I would catch the lift to head to LBC...less hiking, still beginners runs if you need, plus decent stuff for people that want it. DHG = alot of work that can be done by a lift for $25...on a weekend that makes much more sense to me. Plus you also have the option of Alice Rawson/Northcote for the fit people.
If it takes you 4-5 hrs to hike to Watsons from Guthega I reckon you need to look at your route, around 3 max, better camping, better views, better skiing, but it is a fair step up from LBC via the lift (not a big step up from LBC via DHG I dont think).
Most of the hike out is skiable with snow too, so not a biggie.

well I've only overnighted in summer and have no winter over night gear other than my super sexxy puffy jacket, but if the purse strings allow I'd love to join in (purse strings being BH and our budget).
Is BH the handbag now?

I've always been a handbag, its only now I've got an arm to hang on too.... and bite when the arm sticks its hands in the purse expecting to find something when there's nothing to find ;). Budgets are a liability, we must be paying too much tax!

well I certainly wouldn't have called you a handbag by a long stretch!

He's a clutch??? :p
I had to go buy one a little while ago - matching and all. Talk about pressure!!
I'll see if I can find a pic of what I have.
