Legislation allows a 50 year lease and Parks Victoria has it up for tender. (But before tendering, look into the court file to see what the previous tenants complained about).

From what I have heard it will be saved. A lodge burnt down (back burning accident) that was insured for over 50 million which was owned by Parks. Apparently 10 mil will be spent on renos and 8 mil will be spent on getting power to the building. I think it would be a good thing but I think to many greenies are involved. Also heard that the gondola is a pipe dream.

The 50 years is interesting given anecdotal reports that leases to small clubs in resorts only being offered 10 years with a tenfold increase in site rentals [which has to be passed on to consumers and school groups if those small lodges aren't going to be turned into millionaires apartments in a decade after the GFC and ETS becomes ancient history.
