View Full Version : Cartwheel & a twisted ankle

Decided to go for a brief slide today (30cms of fresh was just too tempting to resist) & even braved placing princess in day care for a couple of hours (first time)... had a fantastic few runs down through the trees from the top of Interceptor down to Pretty Valley.. lots of soft deep powder.. pretty hard going at times (note to self to lose more weight.. pheew). Then as we were traversing back down to the Interceptor I hit a bit of an icy patch then a bump then a dip then another little icy bump and caught an edge and cartwheeled twice and felt my ankle twist like a pretzel. Decided that I'd be ok (false bravado) and got the lnterceptor to the top then nearly fell on my fat bot when getting off due to the pain in my ankle. One bucket ride down and a butter box back to Perisher and it was all over for me :( Doc said it is just a sprain/twisted ankle.. apply RICE and I should be up and boarding by the following weekend.. hmmm however I might drag the pain out a little longer and capitalise on hubby doing the extra housework :D graemlins/boarder.gif

Nah sorry... took it up with me and put it in my locker only because I didnt want to leave it in the car parked at the skitube (worth a fair bit to have it stolen!) Just as well I didnt have a go with it today.. it was embarrassing enough taking a bucket down the hill (special thank you to ski patrol.. you do have fab job.. bless ya all!).. imagine if that was caught on camera.. oh the humiliation ;) Mind you my friends I was boarding with took it upon themselves to take a happy snap with their phone camera.. I may treat you all to a little peak if you's are nice to me!

My god.. my foot is in f@#king agony.. I've popped 4 ibobrufen at once.. probably not a smart idea.. but I am desperate... it hurts so much :(

Kidding by the way.. ooohh num nums... not missing out on anything really.. as I never drink anyway.. I think it's because I can't stomach drinking any beverage if I'm not thirsty. Schnapps is really nice on a special occasion.. and you don't need to drink too much to enjoy it. Now chocolate on the other hand.. I could woof a block away without taking a breath :D Having said all of this.. I bet 4 straight scotchs would numb this pain nicely ;)

today would have been the perfect day for the helmy cam! you could have posted it as Ski patrol cam as well as ski cam!

Sorry to hear you've stuffed it for a few days (hopefully not much longer) I hear schnapps helps with pain ;)

But yeah I was told no alcohol when I did something to myself, and it does pay off.

Oh, and annie! What's arnicha? And where do you get it from?

Hey JSJ,

Arnica is a "natural" anti inflammatory, helps with bruising and swelling. Chemists would usually stock it.

Are you taking any anti inflams? Voltaren 25's don't require a precription, much more effective on inflammation than Ibuprofen.

JSJ,

If it's taking 4 Ibruprofen to get the job done you might consider an x-ray.

That's pretty solid pain for a twisted ankle. There's lots of little knuckle bones in your ankle - it's like the wrist of your foot - might have a crack in one.

Also watch heavy doses of any NSAID pain killer the liver and kidney's can take a hammering.

Thanks Footguy, TVC & Spaz... Pain has decreased a lot today after a good nights sleep, and I've managed to keep the swelling down from regular icing and elevation last night. I've managed to do a bit of running around in town today, and even got hold of some 'arnica' from the chemist (have avoided any pain killers today). As for heavy doses of NSAID I had some mild adverse kidney reactions when I had sarcoidosis and had to take perscription Ibuprofen, so yeah, I should be more cautious.. get a little desperate when in a bit of pain. Gonna take it easy this arvo.
