View Full Version : Why would a ski tech detune skis to 1 degree side angle?

Put my skis in for a base repair. Did ok on that. But the tech change the side edge bevel form 3 degrees to 1 degree.

Why ruin an awesome pair of skis. I just checked them as I was sure he had said the wrong angle when i asked him. I got distracted by a phone call and forgot to ask if he was talking about the base bevel.

But no it is the side bevel.

One set of Metron 11s unskiable as they are.

Have to take them back in, in the morning.

Maybe he just thought 1 degree will do as default and didn't bother looking them up .... :(

Metrons, not many shops know how to tune them properly, good luck getting that one sorted out.

You would think that InSki would know what they were doing. But apparently they don't have a clue. :(

Do you usually get them tuned there?

I normally do it my self but I needed a base repair and for that I get my skis ruined. :( Should have put them into Jindy Sports last weekend. Will have to pay someone competent to fix the problem.

Have you spoken with them this morning Bear?

Too busy to go in to the shop today Tobi. They don't answer the phone so I sent an email. I will post it here so others are warned as well.

Dear Ski Tech,

I brought my Metron 11s in for a base repair to a large deep scratch on Monday specifically asking for them not to be ground back to smooth on the grinder. Ok so you ground them back to near smooth with no effort to P-tex fill the scratch. I can accept that, even though you have shortened the life of the ski, however a phone call to tell me that you were going to go against my instructions would have been appreciated.

What I am angry about is the fact that you have change the bevels of both the side and base. I have no ides what base bevel you have put on the skis but they are not the 0.5 degree that they were when I put them in. I can’t work out what bevel they are but it looks to be more than 4 degrees. Then the side bevel was changed from 3 degrees which they were set at to 1 degree. No ski manufacturer uses 1 degree side bevel angle. I personally maintain my skis to a high level during the season so I know my angles.

The Metron 11 are a very stiff high end ski. Your incompetence in the workshop has rendered them useless. I do not have time to come into the shop today as I have work to do and I am going down to Jindabyne tonight after work to ski. I will now have to pay again to try to have my favourite skis put back into some sort of reasonable condition so that I can ski. This time I will go to a reputable company that employs competent staff.

You have lost my business for good. I will also be telling everyone I know and who skis/snowboards never to have any dealing with your organisation ever again.

P.S. Answer your Business phone.

On a serious note , I hope you can get your ski's sorted, and maybe send them a letter of demand with the cost of the repairs.

I'd be doing that too mr Rottn as a minimum.

and don't accept a store credit.

Bear, they already lost my business after selling me a defective product and only refunding after a protracted 'discussion'. I discovered the product was definitely not-fit-for-purpose (defective) almost as soon as the ink was dry on the cash register receipt. They have a no refunds policy and try to apply it to the letter, so buyer beware!

If the item isn't fit for purpose isn't it illegal to refuse a full refund? If it's a change of mind then a store credit, exchange etc is appropriate, well al that is for NSW anyway!

Exactly the point we made. In my case it was not a change of mind, actually went to another ski shop (as Inski did not have a replacement item) and bought the same thing but in working order. Hard to fathom their attitude.

We go to Belconnen Ski'n Board for our ski stuff. Steve is a great bloke and knows what he is doing!
