I got sent an email today saying that under the rule of the Taliban, the population of Afghanistan produced 100 tons of Heroin a year.
Now under the protection of the Australian, British and American soldiers they are producing 8,400 tons a year, if this is true why are our soldiers over there dying.

Yep I've seen a few times in the media stories about opium production going through the roof in Afghanistan since our lot went in.
Not sure about the reasons for it though except that the economy of Afghanistan is so stuffed its one of the few ways to make a good buck. How thats changed before and after the Taliban rule I don't know!

The USA actually gave them a financial reward in the mid to late 90's for "helping to stem the flow of drugs".
There is two sides to this story mind you.
There was an interesting article about in a mag I read recently.
I'll see if I can dig it up.
theyre probably using the soldiers to export it

pffrt, producing same amount but they're probably actually declaring the whole crop now that pockets aren't being lined with reasons to hide it
