Mobile insurance is a rort, the rings they make you jump through when you make a claim is insane. On top of that you pay $7-$10 a month for 2 years plus an excess of up to $400. That makes it around $600 over the life of the contract (should you make a claim). You can buy a multitude of phones for that. On top of that you may never make a claim, I can think of a million better things to spend the cash on.

My advice, go buy a prepaid phone from which ever network you're with, throw the prepaid sim away, slot you replacement sim in and away you go.

Maybe you are covered by Contents insurance?

Just don't tell them where you left it ;)

I guess some insurance is better than others.

My phone stopped working the other month and I could even make a claim with my insurance for that.

That ****s Xena,

On the weekend just past, my friends and I had a very big night out for a bday, and a mate accidently left his wallet and phone out the front of a block of apartments on a step, we went looking around in the morning hoping someone picked the wallet up then threw it so we could atleast get the cards, then the police called a few hours later it got handed in, I was amazed that it got handed in.

That is really low that someone stole your phone! Kharma will get them back in other ways.

At one time, I lost or broke about four phones in a 12 month period. Thank God I was insured because I was simply given a new phone. The only thing I had to do was file a police report if it was lost but if it was broken, it was sent away and analysed which I was also given a temp phone during that time.

I wouldn't have a phone without phone insurance. I've got an iphone now which could easily go missing.

Boomer Xena,

I pay $20 at the beginning and that pays for the whole life of the phone, including new ones if the original is broken for the period of 2+2years.

To start with Xena if you purchased the phone with the contract, get in touch with your phone co. and get the IIME number blocked, that is the actual handsets identification number, they will have the IIME of your phone on their records....... that should lock up the actual handset even if they swap sim cards in the handset.

When the handset won't work anymore they may hand it in at the cop shop and then you can get it unblocked again

Mobile Insurance is a rort as well, because they put the value of your phone at market value. If you had a $1000 iPhone and 6 months later it's only worth $340, then they'll pay you $340 minus the excess which might be $100 ! So you'd get $240 !!! so crap!

Make sure you file a police report with the IMEI

Never had a problem getting a replacement handset from my previous phone insurance when mine died
Obviously there are insurance policies better than others floating around

Wrong. Scumbag and his g/f were in strife for setting 2 schoolsablaze, and later beating up a victim - she was 'as seen on Crimestoppers' hitting the guy with her plaster cast. And got off. Then, they were breaking into cars, stealing mobiles and converting them to cash at a store. Then he went inside. Then whilst on parole, they did it again, except this time the cops had them in the firing line. Girlie says he did it. He says she did it. Neither does time. No conviction for her. She goes up to a remote area of Qld and, mysteriously, the local rag reports a spate of thefts of phones from cars. Frankly its time Sam Kekovich and Derryn Hinch were made Judges. Then again, Judges hate mobile phones going off in Court so maybe that's the defence these scumbags are using now.

Make sure you file a police report with the IMEI I thought the insurance covers your old for new product, thats how home and contents works. Then again we are talkin about scum sukin phone companies here.

On a bright side. Flew to Melbs on Sat with some friends. One left her wallet on the plane. 8 hours later she got a call to say they found her wallet after it had been to Syd - Bris - Newcastle and back to Melbs. To top it off it still had the cash in it. smile.gif

not all the people in the world are gremlins, I left my phone on the spare tire of my 4wd and drove off, once I realised and had stopped cursing myself I called the number and some guy answered telling me where he was and he'd drop it back to my place for me! champion!
I'm sure all these happy endings make you feel great eh?!

It's happened to us too Xena. Not a nice thing especially since they answered and even when we said we would pay a reward they hung up without saying anything and then we never got an answer again when we tried to call again. Blocked the phone.
