On 25th November at 6.30pm the Board will hold a community forum at Parkview Hotel, Boulevard Room 1, Level 1, 562 St Kilda Rd Melbourne. Ski Club members, and the public, are welcome and can rsvp to Maureen Williams on 5777 6077.

There will be open questions.

Is there anything you'd like to know, like

why the public end up paying when cheap ski accom places are paying market rent based on their site having a hypothetical 3 storey Taj Majal that hypothetically is built up the boundary.

why the taxi of 12 adults is $408 for a return journey of about 2 miles?

why a average family is bled before they get to the cheap accom they bought on worif.com

why the taxi is registered as a bus so it can take the long way round to several lodges as it if was a public bus rather than a taxi?

Or why People Mover cars are $60 entry

Or why Buller's gas is 40% more than FC or Thredbo

Or why AWDs and 2wds cars can't drop off passengers and luggage for free (ie no taxi) when the road is clear and dry.

Or why the Stirling cafe, ski hire and loos are 2kms below the snowline?

Or why people are grabbing ski holidays in NZ and elsewhere?

Anything else?

Rant off.

i have to say the people at the resort entry gate are very good. i was going up there on a day that was pretty windy but i hadnt seen a forcast that morning and instead of just selling me a pass they said that all the lifts were currently on hold and wouldnt be assessed until 10am. very thankful they told me that as it ended up being a terrible day up there.

no doubt that these issues are common to all australian ski resorts

Aus resorts need to understand they are not just competing with the tiny amount of other resorts here they are competing with NZ, Japan, Canada and the US to name a few and all have great deals (not to mention great snow and terrain).

Too right.

I did a 17 day trip here in August (peak season...) and got 4 rain days, 4 warm slushy days, 4 wind-hold days, 3 dusting-on-badly-rain-affected days and 2 powder days (30cm & 20cm) in gale force winds and poor vis. Me and a mate spent well over $4,000 each...

I don't even want to think about what I could have had OS for 4K... :(

I still enjoyed my trip all the same, but will be thinking seriously about culling Oz ski trips next year, at least until it dumps big time!

Hmmm, $A4000. Try airfares $1100-$1250, $US416 + $US476 for 14 nights in a 1 bedroom confdo just 500 yards from lifts. Add $US329'ish for a season pass. That leaves under $1500 in change.

I probably should mention that none of my trip was even in "on snow" accommodation (unless you count DP) so nowhere near lifts.

And Mt Beauty to Falls is almost 50,000 yards.. ;)

Another question for you Vet,

Why do, so called local residents in the Alpine district, get discounted season passes while those who actually own property on the mountain get nothing. Aren't we the ones paying rates, bed tax etc?

I have a friend who owns a property near Sawmill, lives in Melbourne and gets the discounted season pass. Obviously a couple of white lies are told here but it still annoys me that the owners of property get nothing.

On mountain residents are a "captive" market, they are extremely unlikely to ski any where else whereas surrounding area locals may have a choice of what hill to go to so they provide an incentive for the local area residents to ski on a particular hill.

Same happens in NSW
