My old Merc gets similar l/kms on hwy cycle to many cars I'm looking at - except the Citroen C4 hdi at 4.5l/100 kms. But there's no room in the wheel arches for snow chains!!!

Holden SA?
Holden Tasmania?
Holden NSW?
Holden Qld?
Holden Victoria?
Doesn't have the same ring.
Not that I would ever buy a Holden anything graemlins/cold.gif
Queens, Wales, Victoria, West, South, North? Don't sound very tough to me. Ford has Territory.
The Kakadu.
What about "Holden Canberra'. We'd at least know it was slow and burned money. :D

The LX is the base model and won't have as many features as the LT. The LT has carpet 6 stacker cd player cruise control on petrol only i think etc whereas the lx has no carpet no rear steps single cd and no cruise control.
When GM sold its stakes in Isuzu to Mitsubishi they also sold the rights to use the Rodeo nameplate as isuzu owns the name. Thats why we scored Colorado it's the name plate used in the states. GM is under contract to source the current shaped Rodeo / Colorado until 2010 from memory. A replacement model will be sourced from Brazil last i heard which will probably get a new name and big bang launch. I'd say this will be the time Isuzu will then change the name of the D Maxx which is their version of the Colorado back to Rodeo.

I don't think I would call carpet a feature
In a working ute it is Fred. ;)

Hey BB, some buddies and myself have an old 1985 Mitsibishi Pajero that we've rebuilt and spray painted canary yellow. I am sure we could negotiate a price that would save you a lot of money compared to getting a holden colorado tongue.gif

Go the Peugeot 308, or a 307 with low Km's. Same factory, same specs, different bodies, and the Pugs can have wheel chains fitted ;)

Hi all,
Sorry my net as home has died carked it, kicked the bucket etc etc.. STUPID NET!
Anyhoo. I have started looking at the Navara instead.
Does anyone really understand how novated leasing works? will it really save me money how? - does it lower the tax on my fortnightly wage or is it done yearly? Im trying to work out how to afford it.

Novated leases allow the car costs to be taken from pre-tax income, this includes lease payments and all running costs. Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT is then payable on the cost instead of income tax. Cars have some special rules for FBT and provided you do lots and lots of KM each year (and I assume you would) the FBT can be very minimal, meaning that yes you will save tax and have more in your pocket each pay day. Oh and you also save on GST too as your employer can claim that back.
There are companies out there that specialise in salary packaging, talk to them.

Yeah. Its just i look at the cost of the monthly repayment and go HOLY CRAP! How is that saving me money....
In my enquiries I have said 15,000 kms which isnt much - i just dont know how to figure out what my income will be monthly to see if i can justify the cost.
When I could take it off my mortgage for much less per month - yes its over many more years, but it just seems much easier.....

You need to be doing 40,000km+ to get the most benefit. That's only 40 round trips to Jindy per year!
Find an expert to work out the figures for you, you'll see what you save in tax. However adding it to your mortgage and paying it off over 30 year of course will generally result in more $$ in your hand in the short term.

I just signed up to a novated lease about 3 months ago, for me it worked out very well.
I had a subaru worth about 15k and was paying back a 15k loan for it at about $350pmonth, it got crashed into and wrote off. I got the payout from insurance and paid off loan.
After heeeeeaaaaps of research, I now lease (novated) a 25-30k subaru, it reduces my after tax monthly pay by about $600, however this includes rego, insurance, tyres and about $220 per month to spend on maintenance.
This is with an estimate of doing 25000km per year.
When i did my investigating, FOR ME it was well worth it and it seemed 15k+ km/per year meant it was about borderline, for 25k+ is was worth it and 40+ was very worth it.

BB, isn't a Navara a ute, or dual cab? That could be very tax effective as you may get an FBT exemption. Work/commercial vehicles are not cars for FBT purposes and provided that the private use other that home to work travel is minor and/or infrequent there will be no FBT.

Carrying capacity generally needs to be more than 1 tonne, don't think dual cabs fit that criteria. And generally you can get away with that exemption if you need a load carrying car..ie you are a tradie or similar. Not really appropriate in BB's case Taxy.

Well chicco is an electricia, but no not me...
I can actually get some very good discounts with Chiccos ABN, but for now, because we are questioning the ways to afford and keep our lifestyle we have decided to put it on the back burner - unfortunately :( Its not the we cant afford it, but if we did it, ski trips would dwindle..... but soon very soon when the little tacker starts school and my childcare bill is zip instead of $600 im free to buy my baby!
