It's that time again folks :D

This weekend is great to catch up with old and new friends! Hope to put faces to names and have a great time exploring Perisher.

Most folk will be staying in Jindy, I am happy to car pool if needed

Fri night at the Banjo for a cleansing ale or 2 and Sat night is at the Brumby Bar for a feed and a million beers graemlins/cold.gif

We meet on the hill at 10am in time for el cheapo hot chocolate at mid station and take it from there. Lunch seemed to work well at Guthega Pub last year, so I reckon we hit the pub up again this year smile.gif

For those with UHF's, bring them along as the banter can be fun ;)

Once again, I'll start off hopeful and aim to sneak away or even drag the legses along.

Might not break it to Mr Legs yet though, that'll give him too long to come up with a good reason why I can't be spared. :(

Ask for a lift. ;)

Other than that there is a bus service Direct to skitube/thredbo. Lever run it as part of their winter schedule.

I'm really excited that I'm going on this trip, but I'll have to go to Japow early next year to offset the time NOT on the aussie snow this year.

Trying to research some accomm for 5 days for 4 people - not easy!!
Ski in/ski out Perisher/Smiggins lodge or chalet or whatever.

Everything is soooooo expensive.

What are good options?

karen97
14-03-2009, 02:23 PM
Jindy ;)

bdenny4
14-03-2009, 03:10 PM
OK - and your suggestion would be?

skichic
14-03-2009, 03:24 PM
you'll have a car? Then yes Jindy is a much cheaper option, and all the SW nightlife will be in Jindy.

Plenty of places, depends on your budget really.

karen97
14-03-2009, 03:30 PM
Swede would be the one to ask

bdenny4
14-03-2009, 03:36 PM
Looking at approx $1,000 to $2,000 for the week.
Will have car
Will be partaking in SW nightlife
Will preferably want to stay close to town

Swede
14-03-2009, 06:20 PM
I would have a look at Aalberg if you're staying for the week. Very good price for the weekly stays and the food (which is inc) is better than any place I've eaten out in Jindy (not that I've been to them all).
4 people sharing 5 bnight mid week is $550/person at peak time I think. 7 nights $750.
Book and Pay dep before 31 March and save 15% as well on those prices.
I only knowthis couse I've already booked a week ;)

We have stayed at The Station Resort and found it very good and because they are associated with Perisher they have some excellent packages available with accomodation and mountain passes.

Its close to nuggets crossing for shopping etc.

We have never eaten there though as we prefer to have breakfast on the mountain and go out for dinner in Jindy.

They also have a 10 % off deal if you book and pay before a certain time ( can't remember the details so here is a link!)

I can't believe how much more expensive it is in NSW compared to Vic.
Is that generally the case?

SA
16-03-2009, 07:15 PM
Accom., yes. Food - well so far, I've found the most expensive is at Falls

Podlettte
16-03-2009, 10:37 PM
Falls food is outrageously expensive!

bdenny4
17-03-2009, 08:35 AM
Never been to Falls
Always have appartment at Hotham and take our own food. Eat out once or twice only.

SA
18-03-2009, 12:42 AM
You need the GDP of a small third-world country to eat there.

Well SA - cos I don't really eat much, I 'got away with' ordering a kids meal at Swindlers.
BONUS! Extra to spend on grog!

BTW - still struggling with the accom for this SW Slide :(
Think I'm gonna end up flying in on the Friday to Caaaaaanbeeeeera, catching the bus to Jindy, finding somewhere to crash for 2 nights so I can hang with you guys, then meet my friends on Sunday arvo on the mountain and stay for the rest of the week in a lodge somewhere with them.
+1 will drive up with the friends.

SA
23-03-2009, 06:46 PM
I would be very surprised if you can't find a lift from Canberra to Jindy on a Friday night!!

Will let you know how I go on the accom front - it's a little daunting for a Perisher/Jindy first timer away from loved ones ;)
I don't want to put anyone out so will look at options first before asking for help. Don't have transport either so was gonna catch the bus or offer petrol money to some fellow SWer with boot space enough for me and my board smile.gif

Everyone has been so helpful, sounds like I better bring enough cash for the first round or two.

karen97
24-03-2009, 12:01 AM

OK - so got to book the acomm on the mountain for Sun to Fri following the Slide.

Any suggestions - prefer Smiggins.
What is the Smiggins Hotel like?

skichic
05-05-2009, 06:58 PM
Haven't stayed there BD, but haven't heard anything bad either. Good position for accessing Smiggs, and the bus to Perisher leaves just outside the door.

Can I ask why you prefer Smiggs? Less experienced skiers/riders?

I stayed at Smiggs in '06 and there wasn't enough snow to ski across to Perisher, so it was a bus trip every day. Was a bit disappointed by that.

The queues in the arvo at the Piper T can be pretty long with everyone trying to get back to Smiggs too. Mind you the same can be said for any of the lifts back to FV in the arvo.

bdenny4
05-05-2009, 07:21 PM
Well SC it's more the fact that our friends will be staying in Smiggins where their parents manage an Appartment building and they will be getting their accommodation for free - we miss out as not enough room in the Manager Apt for us! Appts there are too expensive so either a lodge such as Snowbunny or the Smigs Hotel seem reasonable.
Actually I am amazed at how expensive the acomm is at Perisher, especially when its not even classed as Peak.

Anyway so I thought that it would be better to be closer to them as we have never been to Perisher before and for night time activities together it would be better to be closer to them.

Also (hopefully) '06 is a bad example - my first year boarding @ Hotham and geez it was painful. Can't imagine it will be the same this year (*crosses fingers*).

chris y
05-05-2009, 07:25 PM
Bd , we stayed at Smiggs hotel last year and it was great , rooms have been done up and the bar is awesome to catch up with everyone.

skichic
05-05-2009, 08:10 PM
Then Smiggs sounds like the place for you BD.

Podlettte
05-05-2009, 09:42 PM
Snowygums at Smigs is nice, not sure how it compares price wise to Smigs hotel though.

Not yet - gotta break it to the +1 that I want to ditch him and go it alone.

But failing that, then I gotta talk him into both of us coming.

Where you staying bd4? Did you book Aalberg or Station?

I'd like to stay at Station for the sheer bargain of it (and quality is not el cheapo like the price would indicate), but afraid I'll be isolated.

What time would I have to leave PB? I am thinking 3pm at the absolute latest.

The buses leave so early - some in the morning? What the jumbuck? Who would pay a night's accom and get no skiing in?

Kaz please don't take me down with you- I wanna ski....

Zena - and anyone else (Legs) requiring lifts.

I can take my car but would prefer to not take it with just me in - money and carbon footprint etc..

So would prefer to car pool - Legs when are you heading down?

I don't know when I can leave yet - depends on the whole job situation.

So I would love either love a lift from Sydney from someone - or is anyone requiring a lift?

Bit of a long story but will post...

Xena all you need is a week of a couple of drinks a day and your liver will be in training.

I went on a cruise a couple of years ago outta brissy. The night i got off I went out with a Brisbane friend, about 6pm we started. and had a good dinner.

We drunk two bottles of wine and I had two extra vodka well drinks and then at about 2am we decide to go home. My friend was wasted - she was drunk dialing her ex of 2 years previous. But remember I had had two extra drinks.

So on the way back from the bar to the car we walked past an RBT set up. I asked my friend if we would have to drive past it to which she said Yes - so i volunteered myself to the cops, i explain that I was going home thought i was ok to drive but wondered if they would test me. They where really nice (i was worried the could get me for intent to drive...)

Guess what I blew.....

the cop and they let you through no questions asked? graemlins/outtahere.gif

I was wondering if anyone would say that :)

Nah

A BIG FAT ZERO...

Seriously, then we went to the car and we drove past they pulled us in and still tested me again and we got chatting with them and they tested my friend who was over.... she had been off the drink for a month and I asked if they thought that me drinking (not heavily mind you) for 7days affected my reading and they said Yes. your liver adjusts and so you can drink more. Apparently an alcoholic will be able to drink more than us and be under... kind of scary.

so...getting there...

Who is heading down from Sydney? on what day and would you like a passenger to help with driving and fuel.

my car is very very not fuel friendly but I don't mind taking it (it will just cost more to run!).

I don't mind going a day or so early either. If someone wants to detour via Canberra airport and collect Xena on the way through!

That said, our builder has told us he can start on Monday 31 Aug!!!!! and I'm not postponing him after waiting for so long so that week might end up proving trickier than I'm currently hoping.

31st is the Monday, so whats the probs?

Don't be surprised if he ends up wanting to start earlier or later than the proposed date. ;)

Kaz could you please update the list.
Friend won't be going now.
She decided to spend her money getting the plumbing on her house fixed instead of going skiing.
I just don't know about some peoples priorities sometimes. ;)

My sentiments exactly D - I mean, who needs to flush anyway? God did invent bushes. Given the choice of flushing or skiing, the bush would look alright to me.

Hope they serve a good Sav Blanc at the Brumby and Banjos - I'm not very good on the ale.

After 2 or 3 Sav Blanc, we could serve you a new wine called Sav Amber and you'd never know.
