Someone broke the forum rules, so it went.
Maybe keep the discussion of shopping out of the thread and it will last longer, Snowatch tries to support buying locally.

I'm sorry, was that my fault?

yes.
And I was just thinking how helpful you have been in here recently, you do provide us with very valuable info on Japan, but we have to keep within the guidelines with respect to supporting the Australian snow sports industry.

Can you bring back the thread and delete the shopping bits? I hate to see sandy's advice disappear.

with apologies to the wiki entry....
Sandy, the water monster and ex-cannibal, expelled from Heaven (snowatch) after his interference caused Heaven's Jade Emporer's (Paul O) precious jade cup (ski retailing) to be broken...

Yeah that is crazy there was really good info in there. Bring it back or can you send it to me in PM. Very silly when we can talk about OS accommodation and things to do, both these things are taking away from Aus industry. Might want to get rid of the whole travel forum if that is the case.
I think you might have over reacted as Sand is just try to help us plan a trip!!

I have to agree, while we all support the Australian ski industry, we all like a bargain OS as well, truth is, I have not seen that big a difference in the true retail prices OS anyway, the price of ski's here is pretty competative these days. I would rather spend a few extra dollars and get full support if there is a problem.

We go overseas to ski...thats not supporting the local industry either. Less money for Perisher and Thredbo. That topic certainly gets hammered on here. No censorship there.
Reality is in the middle of summer most ski shops carry sweet all gear that you need. So you buy in Tokyo. You don't goto Japan to buy snowgear. Its a bit different from buying off the net from the states.

And having just returned from a quick weekend trip to Tokyo, and yes I did have a quick look at the ski shops, and yes I made an impulse purchase of some ski's......but lets be honest, IMO most ski's purchased over in Japan are probably ski's to ski on over there and are a 2nd or 3rd pair for the person..... I now have 5 pairs of ski's in the quiver, and only 1 pair purchased overseas.
Whilst I think its great to promote supporting the local industry, I think this sort of censorship is bad.....
maybe we should start charging those users of of this forum who spend valuble ski dollars outside Austrlia a duty fee to ensure that local industry is kept afloat
Gavin Jennings MP is well aware of the travel posts and the deals that are simply irresistable. Meantime a RMB gloated about its 'efficiencies' ... in an audience that included Vice Presidents from the likes of Fox. The wastage is palpable.
Meantime our place is receiving offers to go o/s. Next year we get $250 off heli skiing in a number of countries and 25% off ski condos in NZ.
Meantime a lodge a thredders had to pay $300k just to renew the lease. If the decision was mine, I'd sell it and set up a tax exempt club o/s. But why bother when we get 15% off 25,000 hotels worldwide, 25% of NZ condos and $250'ish off heli trips in several countries.
Its about time the Oz resorts and its boards were kicked in the backside.
and in reviewing valuations of places at FC, I can now see why places that sold in 1986 for $1.5m are worth a third of that. Even the valuers blame management rather than global warming. Crikey, a place at another resort, 10 metres from a chair, was sold for $1.5m for about 20 motel rooms, bar, restaurant, 3 bedroom managers unit, and ski hire and pool. Bargain. Rant off.
the oz industry is under atack, and the enemy imo is overpriced everything here. Its appalling that a 10-14 day trip to NZ can be less than a trip just 3-6 hours up the Hume Highway.

chill people. smile.gif I think your all gitt'n your panties in a bunch about nothing. smile.gif Its the internet FFS. :D
Appologies Hoots. I really no longer fit into size 8 panties. :D
But I'm happy. Getting a swag of $250 discount vouchers off heliskiing and 25% of condo accom in NZ for members. From the Dolomites to Alaska theu're busting their chops ... and meanwhile 1 star club accom clubs in NZ dither about reciprocal rights. Oh well.
