I went to a 'catholic' all boys school, and there is one 'brother' in gaol for being a rock spider, there are other 'brothers' who should be in gaol for the same thing and other teachers who were that dodgy, they should be put away forever.
I remember witnessing things at school camps that as an innocent boy thought nothing of, but now when I look back, it makes me scared.
These people have no place in todays society if you ask me.

In my view, one of the factors which causes these issues is that the Catholic Church expects their clergy to live celibate lives... and some people (clergy) are just not able to do that. And on top of that, they are placed in positions above kids and other vulnerable people, and they abuse their power/position.
It's a bit unfair to wind it down to to the Catholics and labor party.
The fact is, child m-olestation and other sexually immoral acts still occur throughout the world (whether in the catholic church or not), and that is to do with the HUMAN condition, not Catholics or the labor party...
Priests and politicians are human afterall... Don't get me wrong; I'm not saying that because they are 'human', it should be normal for this to happen, or they shouldn't be blamed for it... They SHOULD be trialed and brought to justice especially if they are hurting other people, but it shouldn't be a normal thing for slagging out catholic or labor people groups...
And Pods, you're right... it is a very sad thing.
*on a side note: I am not a Catholic or a labor party supporter. This reply isn't written out of malice or anger, just to make a point on how twisted the human condition is (all of us), and it's not exclusive to priests or poli's
well said chimo..
it is sad to think of the lives destroyed by such abuse.. especially at the hands of those they trust the most.

My brothers went to Stannies.
My little brother was sexually assaulted by a serial pedophile when he was 13 (not at the school or by school staff) and the school was abso-****in-lutely fantastic.
I think that generalisations about the school are a little unfair. I cannot fault Stannies for the way they treated my brother upon his return to school.
I hate this sick bastard for what he did and hope that he rots in gaol, however I think it's a bit rich to blame it on Catholics as a whole!

Unfortunately, documented cases of this type of abuse are not confined to Catholic schools, Anglican schools also have had their problems, as well as public schools.
Very sad.
