Hi All

Enjoying my first couple of days in SF.

Day one - fresh off the plane we went and had lunch in the park were little D could have a play. And then we did a bit of shopping at a Mall. Very crazy cause it was DEAD absolutly dead... sometimes we were the only people in a shop.

The next day we went to Half Moon Bay - we had lunch at a brewry and went for a couple of walks along the beach. It was a bit overcast and threatening to rain but overall was a nice day.

Yesterday we kind of hung out again - did a trip to the park (gets little D's engery out!!) and wandered around Downtown Mountain view, which had a bit of a village feel. We also drove around Stamford which was pretty cool.

And we also drove around Google which was pretty funky. I have some funny pics from there. They have these 3 wheel motorised cars, even better they have the elecrtic outlet that lets you charge the car!

Also there is bikes everywhere in bike racks which aparently staff can use any time to get around the campus (yep google is almost as big as stamford!)

Anyway my main reason for posting is to let you know that we are heading to Sugarbowl on Monday now. There is currently a big-ish storm heading through the Serria Nevadas so we decided to delay the trip for a day. So fingers crossed it will be a blue bird day with minimal wind tomorrow with a good 25" of new snow having fallen over the weekend.

Will be able to upload photos on Tuesday.

you and the Veteran crew (i think they arrived today) picked a great time to come and mon is going to be bluebird!! enjoy sugarbowl it's a great little mountain, be sure to hit the area between the disney chair and the pallisades it'll be great powder skiing, as well as the area directly under the lincoln chair (altho you should be an expert skier to do the latter) have great time and be sure to hit alpine meadows as well. Happy Trails hairfarmr

The previously mentioned storm that was due all weekend apparently dumped snow Saturday night, all day Sunday and it must have also snowed overnight as there was a lots of snow on the road even though it had been cleared. Highway 80 was okay but from the turn off to the resort (5 miles or so) there was snow on the road. It never creases to amaze me how these big US resorts are straight off the freeway… and sharing the road with Semi’s doing 70 on snow covered roads.

We met up with a friend outside Sacramento for dinner on the way home and she had been at Squaw on Sunday and it was terrible she did one run and the +1 and brother did 3 before they headed home. When we checked the weather on Sunday it had snowed 22” but I am sure there was at least another feet on top of that… but it was a hard website to figure out. No last 24hr or 48 etc.

It was pretty tracked out by the time we got on the mountain so maybe it didn’t snow as much at Sugarbowl on the Sunday. But the snow was still really nice – covering the lower buckles of my boot most of the time.

Sunday night we went to bed having set the alarm for 6 (but I didn’t know that). We also set the coffee machine as well and packed food for lunch. Overnight I woke a few times, once too little D waking and the second time to SnoDiva’s phone going off at 3am. I heard it as it was downstairs with me I thought maybe it was my mum and something was wrong since she only had Snodiva’s mobile number. But it was some sort of an alarm (we guess little D had somehow set) the next around 5am I woke to the coffee brewing… not long after that I realised that Snodiva hadn’t come down to wake me and got into a bit of a panic and so went upstairs to wake her. Turns out it was 5.15 and she had set the alarm for 6, Snodiva decided we may as well get on the road anyway so we made coffee and bagels for breakfast, finished packing the esky and were in the car and off at 5.45. We arrived at about 9.30am and were on the mountain just after 10…. We must have been half asleep as there was lots of ar.se-ing around including me leaving my gloves at the car….

You can see the high winds blowing at the top of the mountain (it was bitterly cold for a spring day!)

First up we hit Jerome Hill lift and then headed down trailblazer, back up Jerome we head down Sidewinder and Christmas tree lane to Christmas Tree lift. We were staying low warming up and getting our ski legs as I hadn’t been in 8mths and Snodiva due to being having a new born at Christmas had only done 3 days in 2 years. One of them being 2 weeks earlier.

After a couple of runs off Christmas Tree we headed to Mt Disney lift as recommended by Hairfarmr. It was nasty… so cold so windy… we went down Pony Express. After this run we were a bit cold so we headed to the lodge for a cup of hot chocolate… Snodiva (being her first day without hubby and child decided that even though it was only 11.30am we needed alcohol and technically to us these two days today/tomorrow were my ‘birthday weekend’) asked the barman for a recommendation whiskey and baileys… oh my it was soooo good and gave us a bit of a buzz ….

Also we noticed this previously… not sure how or why it is just on the side of the mountain but kind of cool… maybe the old chairlift before the detached quad was installed?

After a couple of runs to get back to the lodge we decided to stop for lunch. Snodiva usually packs a lunch for the day using an esky/chilly bin…. Which I didn’t mind cause I usually pack lunch and carry it in my pack. But we had all the stuff for lunch in the boot. – only missing was a couple of fold up deck chairs and it would have been great.

Also at lunch we made a few more drinks... Vodka and Redbull (from the boot of the car) and then also one hip flask of Vodka and Cranberry... I mainly drunk that) sorry hop too many children are reading this if so 'you shouldn't drink and ride... but it was a special occasion.....

belated happy BD stranger, looks like you had a blast at "The Bowl" sorry you got blown off the top of disney (wind is an ever present occurance in the sierra's so it can be blowin hard on top most days) but had to let you know that the lake in yer pics is the infamous "Donner Lake" where many early pioneers froze to death on their way to Sacramento in 1848, and the resort you can see in the backgroung is Northstar or as we call it Flatstar or Gaper heaven. Enjoy the rest of yer trip Hairfarmr
