Wouldn't base my skiing trip on the price of a ski ticket alone..... and Heavenly (next to Northstar) was my least favourite Tahoe place just visited.

I'm beginning to think you actually liked Heavenly with your constant protests it wasn't any good ;)
FWIW it's all down to personal opinion.
What didn't you like about Heavenly compared to other resorts?
I don't think it's fair to say it wasnt your favourite without letting others know your ability, what you did/didn't like etc

I'm not saying Heavenly isn't any good, especially when compared to anything available in Australia (Think Thredbo on steroids meets Crown Casino). And if you went there without trying anything else in the Tahoe area, you wouldn't be disappointed. Also, if you where there with children or a not so keen (skier) +1, it would be a good option. My personal preferences - I liked the ambience of the north Tahoe area (or was it I disliked the condo and casio ambience of Nevada); I really liked Kirkwood, especially access to a huge amount of great off-piste skiing, some really challenging skiing, colder temperatures (keeping the snow fresher); and it's laid back ambience.
If I was going back with a +1 who wasn't so keen on skiing, I would go to Squaw. Its big enough to keep the less keen skiers happy, has a very nice village, has a great variety of slopes to keep every level of skier/boarder happy and has some really challenging terrain for the more advanced. And I'm seriously thinking of heading to Squaw with the (non-skiing) GF next year.
Taxi can handle powder better than some I've seen on these forums:D :D :D
I agree re Squaw - we have the hotline to ski with hotshots, + there's the pool, jacuzzi, shop, Club, proximity to ice skating and shops and restsurants (high brow and low brow). Want to ski with Moseley? It can be arranged.
Ditto with Heavenly.

no one was questioning anyone else's skiing ability Vet, i was trying to figure out why when anyone else mentions the word heavenly one or both of you say it's crap, which is how your words come across.
it's not the gnarliest resort in the US, or even california/Nevada, however that doesn't mean it's not a good resort. You've said you got it on blue bird days with little to no fresh snow, yet when I said we got it on a blue bird powder day and had fun (in another thread) you kept saying how crap it was.
Saying all you had was a trail map to go on for Northstar so you didn't know the best bits to go is a huge cop out! finding good spots at any resort is pretty simple by looking at the trail map, asking some questions and exploring for yourself.
I am a very keen skier, as keen as BH and technically almost as good as he is which is fairly advanced.
Taxi, You still haven't said what about the resort you didn't like? You've said you didn't like the casino's, which are easy to avoid going to, and aren't part of the resort, and you've said you didn't like the "flashy" Gondola area, yet then say you loved that side of squaw, which offers from the sounds of it, exactly the same things as the villagey bit Vail put in at Stateline.
you can avoid the casino's and stay on the Nevada side in any of the many condo blocks on the road up to boulder or stagecoach lifts or stay down towards California lodge and avoid the schmultz altogether.
I just don't think you are representing the resort to fellow snowatchers in an objective way, you are telling them it's crap, not letting them make up their own minds!

I wasn't saying there weren't better places to be, did any of you actually read my posts?
I preferred Kirkwood too, but over any of them I preferred SNowbird, powder mountain, Snowbasin, Grand Targhee and Mammoth.
None of that has anything to do with telling people it's crap when that statement is a personal preference, not an objective report on the resort.
Why is it so hard?
