Just got a fare for Sydney - New York for $908 return including taxes later in the year.

Thought I'd share this with you!
LAX is $898, but for another $10 you can get to JFK. Interesting! :D
Welcome to an era of air travel where Delta are now forcing Qantas to be competitive for the Trans Pacific Flight ;)
If only there was snow at that time of year!

Yeti,
You can have two bags - each bag 23kgs, if you are a qantas club member you can have three bags 32kgs each.
The reason they are doing these prices is that they are putting on more flights, they have another A380 coming next month, to make it 4 of them. Also they are trying to reintroduce SF as a hub, but LAX is the key one.
If you fly Qantas from LAX to Sydney or Melbourne, you depart from the Bradley terminal, if you are flying into Brisbane, Auckland etc, you go from the AA terminal which is not at Bradley.
If you fly Business or First class Qantas to Australia, you are offered if you are australian, a 'fast track' through immigration and quarantine card, helps heaps, walk this way right on through, bypass all the masses. Oh but not if you have things like beef jerky or meat products, chocolates and jellie bellies no problem, just make sure you still declare it and see the people just after immigration, they then ask a few questions and stamp a green stamp on your card. Green means go.
Qantas have the size restrictions on baggage, and a ski or board bag counts as one of those bags. When flying internal America - make sure you book an affiliated company and carry with you the baggage allowance info from the Qantas site, I have it with me all the time, and it means I do not pay any additional for my baggage.
Once I came from JFK to Canberra with Qantas and I had 6 bags including a massive container of artworks - travelling business class they just put them through, even though I was willing to pay for them! I had just spent 7 months in NY - and I had sent already my ski bag back to Australia using www.luggagefree.com (http://www.luggagefree.com) - the bag weighed 75 kilos and cost then only $250 usa dollars door to door. Then at Sydney I had forgotten one of the bags/boxes and Qantas delivered it to Canberra for me, it was a bit of a challenge on the logistics of that much luggage for one person, but I made it.
Yeti do it!!!!!!! But you need at least 7 days in NYC.

Hey skijacski, I always get the fast track, "Express" card but I can never use the lane because I always have chocolate :D ...... but then again they ask what you got matey, and I say chocolate and I just go through without putting my bags in the machine! I never seem to have to open my bag or put it in the xray machine!!
Only got 3 days in NYC this time, will go there again maybe end of year or in fall .... I tink we will see more flights as Delta launches, Qantas are scared of Delta smile.gif

How come you don't go through immigration upon leaving the USA? That really surprised me. The qantas check in staff just took the little slip out of my passport and that was it! I went through security looking for immigration and there wasn't any!

SC. I cleared US immigrations when I was in Canada. Although in Canada, I was on "US territorial soil" at the airport, seperate section ... and after being fingerprinted so many times, apparentally my finger prints didn't match the ones on my VISA that I got in Australia! LOL
when I got to SFO, i just checked in bags, showed passport, that was it. Nothing more !

no I mean when I exited via LAX there was no immigration to go through. When I said "you" I meant it as a collective "you".

skijacski, I looked at that website. A ski bag is $600 USD AU--> US and $390 US--> AU ... you must have got a discount somewhere, but then again, it does say indicative ... hmm expensive!

Yeti, did you get body scanned at SFO? we did! :D
some guy behind us was asked repeatedly if he had a belt or anything on, he'd say no, so they'd do the body image scan again, stand him aside, ask him again "no"... a few more times and he said, "oh I've got my belt on, if I take it off my pants will fall down" a few giggles all around from passengers and the customs/immigration woman said well don't be doing that now

Hahaha going to Vancouver from LAX I was that asian, lol, well, I forgot about a new belt I bought! I never wear a belt onboard, and this time I did. They gave me a full patdown, it wasn't amusing, it took 10 minutes! I nearly missed my flight !!!
