March 17: Snow Park Scales back Operations for Winter 2009

In light of the current world economic situation, Snow Park NZ will be scaling back our operations for the 2009 winter.

"This is a temporary measure to ensure that the Park remains financially viable and can continue to operate through this very tough time. We have some great industry support and really value the hard work put in by so many over the past 8 years. We are considering all options moving forward,"- Snow Park General Manager, Sam Lee.

The resort will offer day passes this season but as part of the restructuring will not be selling season passes. Snow Park will be taking a hard look at our operational model in efforts to maintain those features that are most popular with our loyal riders. In the long term we have every intention of keeping our plans for expansion alive and will continue to source the additional capital needed to do so.

"We are all affected by the global economic recession, as a family operation, we realise that we must take action now to ensure that our 84 years of history in the Cardrona Valley is preserved. These are difficult times, we are optimistic about the future, but must be realistic about the present. " Sam Lee, General Manager.

I guess they make more money if they don't sell season passes.

but does it reduce their return visits???

I understood it to mean that it gives them the flexibility to close the park if things don't work out this year, without having the worry of season pass holders not being able to ride. At least they have been up front before the start of the season.

I think its a great plan. From someones point of view that doesn't buy season passes.
It gives them the ability to really ramp it up when they need to, without being obligated to SP holders.
I guess cardies will be getting a bit more love.
With TC's pass being 11 million francs again this year.

I hope they survive the downturn.

I'm pretty sure Snow Park and Snow Farm are the same company. Will be interesting to see how Snow Farm goes.

Snow Farm is basically cross country ski circuits from memory.

Snow Park has been on the market for a while now - Here. (http://www.realestate.co.nz/897012) We're heading up for a look this year so it better stay open!

Have had friends visit Snow Farm. Weren't very excited by the monotony of the circuits, but loved the concept.

Fingers crossed for Snow Park

From what I've seen it's an old quarry!!! Not a tree in sight, but a good use for something like that.

Snow Park is back on track for this season and season passes are available from the 1st May.

Interview with Sam Lee HERE. (http://www.nzsnowboard.com/articles/470/apr_17th_09__nzsnowboardcom_exclusive_interview_wi th_sam_lee_from_snow_park_nz)

After reading the interview it seems they were hit pretty hard last year. Things must have been pretty iffy as to whether they'd be running this year and probably played a big part in why the Burton Open ended up back at Cardrona.

Looking forward to getting up there!
