Hi All,
Well a couple of weeks ago Carl and I went off on our honeymoon, with a group tour organised via a mate... Now im not much of a blogger, so bear with me...
Turns out we werent the only couple doing theyre honeymoon - so it was a great trip..
firstly we headed to Nozawa Onsen, and upon arriving it decided to puke... around 10-20cms that night. (thats a dump for us Aussies) So we headed on up and had a blast.. I didnt really find a major difference in riding styles was just much softer to land in..
We spent the week cruising around and on the 4th day with no fresh snow, I managed to con the boys into a jibbing session.. Lessons were seriously needed by myself.. I love jibbing, but never have anyone to go with, so havent progressed much..
So Shay and Big Red, head over to the competition rail (there was a comp that night - -who could rail longest. Now bear in mind Shay holds the world record for the longest rail ride (37m).. so I stand there watching, heart pounding, mind going.. man I have to do this.... i watch I watch i itch, i step, i shuffle and go **** here goes, I head up the ramp, join the queue, absolutely ****ting myself... My turn... Ok, I wipe off a lot of speed but managed to hold it together... Jump on and WOOOOOOOO my god i rode it, and rode off.. ok about 3-4metres, but hey pretty good for my first real rail (not a box!!) I get interviewed by the competition team, and i can barely talk man talk about adrenaline.
so heart pounding i run back up the ramp (well the side) and go again.. OOOO i get on and hehe fall off, onto my bum,,.... I run back up... go again.. HOLY CRAP i think i had a knee... well thats gooone... Off i go agaib - if i didnt i knew it woould play on my mind... O man, the next few days were amazing, my riding was just phenomenal,.. you know when you feel so good about yourself, cos you know you can actually do something.. Screw the boys hogging the park/rails... Making comments so you dont go in.. No way buddy not no more.. I can do it... I just gotta practice
After chatting with Shay, its decided due to knee injuries that jumping is limited so I am now a jibber... anything natural any rails, just do what i feel,... wooo I cannot tell you how i felt (im sure you have had your own experience, when something just clicks)
After 4 days at Nozawa we head of to Myoko Kogen, however as we are leaving it pukes now it really pukes, by the time we had gotten to Myoko (2 hours?? i think) we had a 40cm dump... O man..
so we head off night skiing, now can i just explain that I have never ridden powder... Didnt even know there was a difference.. O my god, anyway the night skiing was quite easy and looked forward to the next day... O little did i know..
Ok bright and early we are up dressed and the whole crew is ready to go.... By this time I believe we had recieved over a metre of snow.. We all head up to the top of Akakura Onsen and hit the mogul run (not my choice) O MY GOD... what the &*#^ was everybody raving about... I HATED POWDER.. O MY GOD.. It was horrible, trying to turn, you'd sink, you'd fall and it would take you forever to dig yourself out... O MY GOD.. I couldnt stop cursing it was horrific... I did 2 runs in this powder and I bailed. I hated it.. Off i went to the piste.
A few days later, we got another 40cms of snow, Shay had recommended not hitting such big powder stashes, just ride into it off the side of the piste, get used to it.. O well this we did there was 5 of us who had never experienced powder before... By then end of the week we had progressed immensely. We were riding throug htrees, coverd in white powder as deep as my chest, O the feeling, it was amazing... So i have now stopped cursing powder, and incorporated it into my repoitore (sp?)
Whilst I am a jibber at heart I am now plannign our next trip to hunt for powder... Possibly Japan again, as the big European Trip needs to wait until I can take my little monster with us...
Might I mention that Myoko Kogen is an amazing place comprised of 4 resorts. 1 is dedicated to Boarders (Park) one is for beginners and the other 2 are for varying difficulties.. To go here I highly recommend staying at Kougakuro Hotel - Meiko the hostess is an amazing woman, who speaks english and passed on several family kimonos ( 2 her grandmothers) to myself for my family.
The japanese people are very friendly and we had some very funny encounters, trying to honour their customs, and having elderly women take us under their wing and explain how to bathe for onsens with their hands... O hilarious.
I would attach photos but I have a new laptop and they are all on the husbands..
