View Full Version : Sick in Nozawa
Hi people.
well i feel crap. some kind of stomach virus i think, hot and cold all the time and no food wants to hang about in the slightest.
we went hard all day today, amazing snow, 20cms overnight and another 15 or 20cms during the day. graemlins/emoticon_skier.gif
anyhow, i don't feel up to skiing tomorrow with the crowds, so we were looking for day trips worth while in the nagano area. seems like the snow monkeys are really hard to get to on your own without a car, we will try to do an organized bus trip later next week.
so you people who know nozawa and surrounds, what are the good daytrips? we have 2 days of JR east pass, so trains are a good option, but other ideas are good...
okies there is a large shopping outlet centre in
Karuizawa - 3 stops from Nagano on the Asama Shinkansen.....
http://www.princehotels.co.jp/shopping/karuizawa/en/index.html
spent the day there and bought a few things - tends to appeal more to the girls (funnily enough)....heaps of outlets stores including Burton, Nike, Adidas, Puma, North Face, heaps of labels...
def. worth a day off to explore....
catch the bus to Nagano and then use your JR pass to Karuizawa....then back to Nagano for the last bus back to Nozawa...

Japanese stomach flu? I had that in Hakuba, just ask fattwins, he thought I was dieing on his dining room table! I was sick for nearly 5 days, was getting better after they took me to the hospital. It's like severe gastro and also vomiting, hmmm not good. Go see a Doctor and get some medicine 24, your travel insurance will cover it.

I was wondering if you know any good links for the daily reports and forcasts for the Hak area. I am heading there on Friday and I have heard some mixed reports on what it is like at the moment.I have also been told they are forcasting the R word! Please tell me this isnt true?

JR - do you have to purchase the rail in advance?
You can buy it at Narita if you dont buy it in Oz - for convenience purposes we bought it before we left Oz.
For the JR East pass you can buy it in Japan. Most (all?) other rail passes have to be bought outside of Japan.

Re the JR East Rail pass, i bought mine through JTB in Sydney. I bought the 4 day multipass, which was good for the Narita Express, travelling the network in Tokyo, the Shink to and from Tokyo to Nagano. Cost worked out to be approx AUD330.00
SB: Did you get an exchange order you had to swap for the pass in Japan, or did they issue the actual pass?
they give you this exchange voucher thing and you give it to the JR office at Narita (you also need to show you passport) and they give you a 4 day pass smile.gif

Some of the JR passes can only be purchased from outside Japan. It pays to go through the website to find the EXACT regs.
See here (http://www.japanrail.com/JR_railpass.html) for details
