okies boarded the last 3 days and in those 3 days we had 80cm dumping on us - i think my timing was good :)

and crowds? I dont think this place knows what they are!! The japanese dont seem too be very powder hungry - thats good - all the more for me......

The resort is empty....of course the weekend will be interesting but we might skip the weekend crowds and sightsee.......hardly any aussies which is rather refreshing!

okies got to take pics one of these days!

The resort reported 15cm overnight today so I decided to go out and ride even though I planned a day off (avoid the weekend crowds and all)

Even though it was saturday the lift lines were non-existant - i dont understand what ppl do on the ski fields here - there are so many ppl milling around on the flat bits but no-one seems to use the lifts (well the lifts I was using anyways!)??
!
The powder certainly got churned up quicker today then during the week and I called it quits at midday (+1 took to day off to do primping girl stuff like fingernails, toenails - hello priorities.....she missed out today!) - still given that the I was finding fresh tracks at 12 gives you an idea of the lack of crowds here?!

Oh they do get crowds "there".
Try the bottom of the nagasaka sunday morning 45mins one time.
Then Yamabiko the lift line was maybe 15mins long.
Lesson learnt. Crowded on long weekends.

thanks for the tip....we planned on taking tomorrow (Sunday) off ....45 mins just sounds ugly....

will make a mental note to avoid the weekend crowds :) (unless it dumps of course)

def. got tomorrow off as +1 and I are heading into Nagano to go all-touristy - no massive dumps forecast so I am ok with not boarding :)

We actually had lunch at popeye 2 days ago - thumbs up to the curry, rice and cutlet!

We are staying about 100 steps away from one of the onsens - geez they are like crazy hot! Thank goodness they have a cold water tap to help cool the water a bit.....my poor sensitive skin can only survive a few minutes submerged before I need to need to get out!

what's up with the rain :(

today was a bit of a mixed bag - it rained this morning (VERY ugly at the bottom of the resort), however we got some decent snowfalls this afternoon up top .....yamabiko was the place to be today .....although the snow was not light, it still beats the rain, ice and slush down below!

Its snowing pretty heavily right now and hopefully tomorrow morning will another powder chase!

hey kort jma is reporting 5cms in the last hr at their automated station in the village. sounds like it is heavy, and radar says more on the way for the next hour or so...

30cm overnight so today was AWESOME up top!! Bottom of the resort got some snow also but it was very heavy and wet......no guesses which place we avoided :)

only light snow for the next few days apparently then a heavy dump on Friday night...fingers crossed!

I think I am experiencing the best and worst Nozawa has to offer ... today was a shocker and thats being nice...it rained overnight - even at Yamabiko.....givne that the resort was pretty much a write-off.......forced to stick to the groomers....it was slusher but also sticky - like I was riding on glue or something! Needed a super warm wax me thinks! Noo chance of riding off piste today as was super heavy - like a glue pot really.....

anyways it is forecast to snow tonight - it is getting cloudy right - if there is no snow tonight I will prolky just sleep in!

We are in the middle of packing up Nozawa and heading to Tokyo for a few days before flying home - the last few days at nozawa have been pretty average - and thats being nice - we havent had a decent snowfall since Tuesday so been a bit bored without fresh powder.....a few cms fell on Friday night but not enough to fill the tracks - the re-freezing of the snow left a nice bulletproof ice layering underneath - in summary it was ugly!! Seems my snow dance failed - I guess you won't be seeing me on "so you think you can dance"!!

I think its fair to say we have been privvy to the best and worst of nozawa onsen snow!! When its good, its unbelievable - when its bad, its like mt buller on a bad day ;)

forecast is for a heavy dump on Friday night - Man they need it....

Sure hope they get it! We left Sat (24th) and there was a lot of "short snow" around.

Couldn't agree more about the lines on Sunday, Yamabiko was just teeming with all sorts of idiots. One run there and back over to Challenge, for us! Monday was a totally different thing, no crowds, wait?? what is a wait?? No such thing!
