View Full Version : velocity to tackle Qantas 'direct earn' credit cards
Confused about these new Qantas credit cards?
Sometime in Feb 09, Velocity will be offerring a deal to lure people away from taking up Qants 'direct earn' cards. V's stable are vaustralia to LA, virginamerica, hawaiian, emirates to UK/Europe and virginblue, and some flying to polynesia. It might be worth holding off for 1-2 months any transfering credit card points to Qantss. :D

It's all in or nothing with those new direct earn programs with Qantas with your credit cards.
I don't trust Deathstar or Qantaaghs.
The nice people at amex are sending me 3 flights worth of points (in addition those I already have 'in the bank') so I hope Velocity offers another 50% bonus (as it did early in 2008) for transfers to it.
FF Points are useful if you know how to earn them in large chunks......Those 1.5 points per $1 spent cards are gold (or should I say platinum!), its even better if you get the annual fee waived smile.gif
I'm hoping Velocity give a 25% to 50% bonus on Amex's bonuses. :D I'd love an extra flight.
Definitely hold onto your card's points til the Velocity promo is announced.

Reminds me time to ring Amex to get the annual fee waived again smile.gif
Hopefully Amex and Commonwealth bank team up with Velocity for a good program

I actually have an alarm on my phone to remind me when to ring up Amex to do the same thing smile.gif
speaking of which, if you have it, have you managed to get the Amex Platinum Credit card annual fee ($395) waived before?
how DO you get the fees waived? beg? bribe?........
Keep an eye on velocityrewards.com.au, elevate.com, vaustralia.com.
Something might be announced 1st Feb. Drop downs on some airlines siound like a deal with United inside the US and Alaskan. Elevate mention possible partnerships with points schemes, car hires and hotels. Might be more promo fares or super bonuses on credit card points sent to it????? Who knows. Anyway, just keep an eye on things.

When they ask why, tell them you don't want to pay the annual fee - if you put enough transactions/money through the card, they will want to keep you as they would be leeching merchant fees off you every time you use the card......i am guessing if you put through say $25K/year on the card, its in their interests to waive the fee and let you keep the card.
$25K a year????????
You obviously don't have kids that eat!
My family put through approx $75K in 2008.
