Hakuba 15th to 25th January
Bit early but have to get Back for kids to start school.
First trip OS to see what all the fuss is about :D
I think Japan wins out as it's so close & rather cheap.
Next years summer trip for me is being planned at the moment. So far it's looking like USA, Canada, Czech & Japan. With a week in London also.

+1 and I are off to Las Vegas for 3 nights, then February and March in Utah skiing all the resorts.
graemlins/woohoo.gif
Blue Hue and Pods, you have to go to Solitude and do Honeycombe Canyon, it is absolutely lovely, and for those with less ability, you can ski down the centre of it while the others do the double black shutes from the sides. I did this the first year I learnt to ski and just loved skiing down past the lovely huge pine trees for kilometres, almost all the way back to the carpark.
http://www.skisolitude.com/winter/trailmap.php
For something different drive up to Powder Mountain and do some Cat skiing, only $7 a ride, again a resort with hardly anyone there.
+1 and I stay at this place and it only costs $55 to $75 a night, queen to king bed, but a studio apartment, right in great location to decide which place we are skiing for the day.

Do they mainly groom that easier run in Honeycombe Canyon SJS?
I guess it does not matter to much, if it is normally a blue run when groomed I should still be able to get down when not groomed. Hopefully if it is not groomed it will just mean that there is more soft snow to fall into ;p
BlueHue
15-10-2008, 04:02 PM
Just don't fall in the soft powdery snow if the run is too flat, otherwise you'll pushing till you get back to a bit steep enough to build up some speed again tongue.gif

was rather cheap. not after the dollar collapsed in a quivering puddle.
i guess it still is cheap relative to other os destinations.
The dollar isn't too bad at the moment 24, well it's better than 63 where it was last week.
Should be back to 75 - 80 JPY soon.
Still lift tickets are 35,000 - 40,000 YEN & beds can be as cheap as 40,000 including breakfast. Can't think of too many other places like that.

Your skiing ability should be fine now, so just do it.

Canada:
RedBull 5th December - 27th January.
Snow Princess 5th December - 18th March.
BrumbyJack 5th December - 18th March.
Golden/Kicking Horse 7th December till the end.
Trips to Whistler, Marmot Basin, Purden, Tabor, maybe a few others.
I so thought this was all going to fall through, just got the OK now :D

Just Snow Princess, he gets to go along a cheer, or more likely, find the closest local hill ;)
I'm sure he'd do the Lake Louise Loppet if he was still in Canada, but all the other stuff is way too serious for him.

I thin the dollar will recover to 90 before the winter really hits. The yen just looked safe because the J-banks are not exposed to the capitol problem. In fact they have almost too much money and are start to buy banks.
a 64 yen helped some aussie exporters make a killing as well. The dollar is climbing again too so here is crossing our fingers!

Using AlluraDirect my tickets are the same $$ as direct from WB, Snow Princess's tickets are the same $$ as direct from WB but RedBull's tickets are a lot cheaper (179 V's 214) than WhistlerBlackomb online.

Xena,
My trip is for the dates as shown, but I and group) will be doin' the tourist tripping around from 6 - 14 Jan, then on snow for the 14-24 @ NozawaOnsen.
They are opening the top of NO this weekend, 40cm cover up top. Nothing in the village yet, but there's plenty of time before January (isn't there??)

I'm going to Hakuba for 13-22 January. I was originally going with my sister and her family but she cancelled last week. I thought about cancelling but decided to go as I had already booked and paid the airfare and 3 nights stopover on the return leg.
If anyone is there at the same time, PM me and we'll go for a ski. I'm a part-time instructor with Austrian Level 1 certification and training to do the APSI Level 2 exam in 2009. This will be part of the training ;)

This trip is really all about checking out where we will end up living in Kelowna & talking to schools.... (the London & New York stops are more "cos we can" :D ).
Initially, there simply wasn't going to be enough time to strap on the planks, but I managed to manufacture an extra 30 hrs in Canada by shuffling some flights around & that gave a window of 2 days to fill in..... What better way to do it ? :D

Hi Ya Paul
Just arrived back from Canada on Saturday. Been there since 18th Dec smile.gif Home base was Sun Peaks this year. Did a race series at Silver Star and spent a couple of days at Blue River with Wiegele. Have a few pics of the Heli in the link below. Unfortunatley I didnt get any shots of the deep tree sking but these are pretty good. I am in the Orange jacket with the black Helmet

It was a lot of fun.. 2 weeks after we left they lost a regular to a tree well which was sad.. he apprently broke away from the group to get a different line and went head first into a tree well and sufficated. They hiked back up with probes and beacons to find him dead about 40 mins later.
