Heavy ski, they bomb down untracked really well for a piste carver, also don't mind the chopped pow either. The only time they are bad is when your doing about a zillion miles an hour down some chop and you bury a tip.....lost a ski, skied on one ski for a bit then headplanted.....overall it was a good trip!!!

As for how they are on groomers......I wouldn't have the foggiest idea!!! graemlins/big_laugh.gif

Their performance today, technically out of their comfort zone, has almost convinced me to buy them!!

Ski's tested in challenging conditions Wednesday. Driving wind, windslab and poor vis were the order of the day.

The ski's are very good for improving technique.....they don't spit you out as such, but they offer no reward for not finding the centre, but when you do find it, they are fantastic!

A perfect ski for people who are advanced skiers but the form is a bit average, and have been using phat ski's to mask technique flaws....like me :D

They'd probably be ok for an expert too Paul....even one that qualifies for a seniors pass (in Hakuba!!) :D

Look like a really nice ski. Like the narrow waist - should be quick to roll edge to edge and from the description quite versatile.

Piste carvers naturally want to be in a turn all the time and skied on edge (which is where that great carving sensation is got). Conversely, mine do not like being run flat down hill on hard pack. Am wondering if this is a characteristic of the shaped ski or is it particular to some dedicated carving skis? How does the Head go in this department?

Skis are actually quicker when on an edge than when on the flat, so being on an edge is better.
That particular Head ski is very stable at very high speed, partly due to it's weight, but also it's construction and overall shape.

Thanks Paul. Will continue to focus on riding the edges. My current gear should be good for another season then it may well be time to trade up to something like these rocket ships.

I found that they like to be turning all the time even in soft snow, they dont like to run flat, they would never make a park ski!!! (nor were they ever meant to)

I had this guy following me around on a pair of those last wed. Funny guy, wanted to test a piste screamer in wind blown pow with bugger all visibility. He looked to be struggling somewhat but showed flashes of brilliance and a particular tenacity to master the implement. Some nice fast centered carves where observed and it looked like the ski will be mastered before not too long.

Tried the Head Supershape Magnum In NZ last year. Was very impressed. Handled everything from hard packed groomers to knee deep freshies with no trouble. Don't know how they compare to the above mentioned skis though. smile.gif

Magnum has a wider in the waist and longer turn radius....more like an all mountain ski than a "versatile" piste ski!

After spending 11 days on these in Colorado I found them to be a great ski especially on hard packed groomers, which is about all we had while there, in bumps they were fantastic, very easy to use for a ski with such good edge hold.
We didn't get any powder so I have no idea how they would be in that.

I used a set in Japan two weeks ago on hard pack......they weren't mine as I was under the misconception that we may ski powder.....but still an excellent ski.
