I'm headed down courtesy of the free bus shuttle service offered to all Saturday 25 April 2009.

Might see some of you down there...

Lest we Forget.

I always hide in the shadows or wear sunnies in the dark, as every year, every service my eyes swell and tears are all over the shop. Fallen soliders are always a soft spot for me, no matter how resilient I may be/appear.

March nearly every year with my grandfather's medals and one of my kids march with my great grandfather's medals. Usually march with my Dad, wearing his own medals. This year he is not here, marching interstate, so will have a quiet, reflective one.

One of those few times one can walk through the Sydney CBD at 4am and know that the good guys outnumber the troublemakers.

The service is a very moving experience. Now to get my kids to come with me .....not bloody likely!

I love the Jindy service. If anyone's around I highly recommend going along. It's a well attended community event. As well as ex service men and women many local organisations such as the rural fire brigade, schools, SES, etc. all march in uniform. Last in the parade is the snowy river horseriders on horseback and dressed in their drizabones and akubras. Quite a sight in a smallish country town. The aero club usually do a fly by during the service as well as a fly past by a plane or helicopter from HMAS Albatross.

The CWA ladies put on a free morning tea with home made scones, cakes and slices and cups of tea and coffee in the Community Hall. Then there's two up at the LJ, which can be a bit of fun and can also end up pretty ugly by the end of the day after way too much beer and rum has been consumed.
