Any recommendations? I dont need the baddest & greatest look-at-me-kimmy skis, just a good solid all round park/mountain ski thats value for money.

Age: 13yr old boy. 50kgs. Athletic
Ability: carves turns on all blues, some carving on blacks.
Interests: rails, boxes, all mountain and sking backwards!

Skis to look at???

Not sure how tall you are, but assuming you are short and don't need a ski over 150cm, check out

Line Invader Mini
K2 Juvi
Rossi Scratch Ghto Pro
Armada AR3

The ar3's would be my pick

well I', 6ft but they're not for me! graemlins/snow_grin.gif

Its a good pickup tho. I forgot his height. He's 5ft 3inches (160cms).

He's on 140's (carve skis) currently but they just look too short for him now he got taller/bigger. I figured a 150 - 155 ski length would be ok.

I'll go and check your list out. thanks!

hmm he could probably go for a small adult ski (definitely more expensive though)
Right in that transition from junior to adult equip.

it's a fine line,

edit: Looks like the ar3 has now been replaced with 'The Coda', and it comes in a 150cm. Good value capped ski.

See if you can locate some 4FRNT TNK's or STL's.
The TNK 07-08 is a great pipe and all mtn ski. STL for park but a little soft for All mtn.

your height has absolutely nothing to do with ski length unless you are a kid, as in under 10 years old type of kid.

it goes on weight, ability, level of agression or total absence of it, speed, type of skiing.

so two skiers that have the same weight, ability, level of agression and speed and both do the same type of skiing, whilst one person is 5'2 and the other is 6'2 should be on the same length ski?

I agree that weight has more to do with length of ski than height, bit i don't believe height is irrelevant. Height should definitely be a factor to consider.

Explain to me how someone's height effects how they work a ski?

I'm no instructor, but i would have thought the difference in centre of gravity? compared to a shorter person could give reason for extra stability in the form of a longer ski

that makes 2 of us, but when I was working in a ski shop I was told to ignore height, unless they were little people. I figured the owner with 40 years experience probably knew what he was talking about.

Could just be a personal opinion I suppose and I'm certainly not a mistress of physics !!

I think height makes a big difference, if your a weedy 6ft bloke your COG is far higher, and when you lean into a turn you get far more bending moment. You could do with more edge in that case!

It certainly doesn't make as much diff with carve skis, but still it makes a diff.

However for the majority of cases, I agree, height aint that bigger deal.

I know plenty of guys who are taller than me and light but use longer skis.

Yes its true, I am short and fat, but somehow, irresistable to wimmen :D

is there really that much difference in the force with height differences of say 1ft though?
