for you experienced folks - now I do attend the snow on a yearly basis but my knowledge of all things equipment is rather low!!

I am heading up to Buller tomorrow for the day and have borrowed a friends board - um, it's a burton 152 something (kinda old, but in great nick). It's a little short for me apparently(I am about 175cm +on the heavier side) - it comes to my nose pretty much, but will it be ok for the day???

I also have her boots which do fit and are comfortable.

I just have to swap the bindings over to goofy and get it run over a waxing machine - approx how much does a basic wax cost at the shop (on average), just so I have an idea when I go to the shop to know that I am not getting ripped off!! ;)

Thanks (oh and for reference, I go back to beginner lessons every year - this will be the 4th time on a board...)

Hey BB! smile.gif

The board doesn't sound too short for you. Rule of thumb is that it should be somewhere between your chin and nose so it sounds like it should be ok.

From memory a wax is about $15-20 (but don't quote me, I do my own). If you are getting it done on the hill it will be dearer than getting it done in Melbourne before you go.

Have fun up there tomorrow! We will wave to you from over on Hotham graemlins/snowman.gif

board length depends on weight, not height. how much you weigh?

BB1, I have seen you, you aint that heavy, 152 = fine. The important thing is to know how flexxy or stiff it is and how aggresively you plan to ride.

If you want a forgiving ride with less edge hold or if your jumping or jibbing, go less stiff, if you want better edge hold but it will be less forgiving, go more stiff!

thanks folks - i had a great day yesterday - went right back to the beginning and had a beginners lesson to make my muscles remember and to boost the confidence a little. Board was very responsive, I did get it waxed the day before ($15...thanks) but the guy forgot to swap the bindings over to goofy...I had to race over to the ski hire shop near the top of BB1 to get them swapped over - I had 15 mins! There were about 13 people in there getting fitted for skis and boots - luckily the guys spared me 2mins or so to swap them - best $5 spent i reckon! Made the lesson just in time.

I am glad I did go back to beginners - because I don't get a lot of time on snow, it is a long time between drinks with the board. Just for reference it is an Option Sweet 52...may have been a touch short, but I was happy with it, and only had a couple of stacks (one great windmill tumble!!) I only stayed on Bourke St which was fairly busy, but I felt comfortable knowing that the ski patrol were around and really taking care of beginners and slowing a lot of others down.

Oh and I actually safely got off the chairlift every time - never been so happy!!!
