OK misleading subject :D

I bought a new lock about 2 weeks ago and had been using it all day today, and in the afternoon I decided to go into the shop at Friday Flat and locked my skis. I finished, and couldn't unlock my skis, the combination just didn't work anymore!

So I had to ask someone really nicely to use bolt cutters to cut the lock.

DOH!!!!!!! New lock and all. Not happy jan.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I haven't been fiddling with the code at all - basically I used it 3 or 4 times today ...

Either way, that's just not funny. I dont think you got the gist of that.

The OP couldn't unlock thier own lock (probably got the combo wrong or something) - it doesn't look like someone tried to steal them.

and now you are down a lock. from memory not cheap either. My Dakine lock is a lot stronger than the bakoda ones the kids have. There's actually not a lot of places to lock them to is there?

Yeah, I had the blue Ocean and Earth lock, it's exactly the same as the DAKINE green one. Must get made in the same factory.

It's not very strong at all, ok maybe if you use your hands it's a bit tough, but use a bolt cutter and bingo *SNIP*

This kind of problem with the combination is the main reason I went for a keyed padlock. I keep the padlock key with my car keys so i don't lose it.
I have heard of this happening before

Hmm, I have keyed ones for my laptops, but never seen a retractable keyed lock. Is yours rectractable? I might have to look into something a bit stronger ....

Paul O, have you heard of this happening with the locks? I think the one I have is the same to the DAKINE one you sell.

with the retractable Ocean and Earth locks, if

you retact the wire too far you can change the

combination without knowing. I know from

experience, but the number usually only changes

by one digit on one of the dials. Just remember

to check the combo when ever you lock it.

This happens quite often, and DrD is right on the money with the problem.

Almost every one of these locks work in the same way, and that is you have to push the retracting cable all the way home to set the combination, and that is their only fault, as sometimes you do that accidentally and without knowing it, just one of the tumblers move while it is in your pocket, and hey presto you now have a new combination, the key is to make sure you never allow the cable to be pressed all the way home, and if you ever go to use the lock and notice the cable is all the way home, then check and see what the combination is.
If it ever happens to any of you, it only takes a few minutes to try a few numbers either side of the original code and usually it will unlock.

As for some of them looking a bit weak, don't be fooled, they may be inside a plastic housing but all the locking parts are metal, they are all way stronger than they look, and as they all look the same i suspect they are all made in the same factory for many different companies.

I guess that can be the only explanation. I used it when I bought it a few times, and 3-4 times yesterday and it has been working fine. Time to buy another one and hope I don't have to break this one :(

Thanks Paul!

Paul O, have you heard of this happening with the locks? I think the one I have is the same to the DAKINE one you sell. There are retractable key locks, i sell them, they have a much stronger cable and sell for around $49, the combination ones i sell are not Dakine, i have Bakoda, RC and Ocean and earth ones, which all appear to be identical.
