View Full Version : Boot Question!!

I have a pair of older Tecnica boots that I love. I tried them on for the first time in about 18 months the other day and found that they were tight in the little toe corner of the left boot.
What do I do to make them more comfortable?
Do I get the shell punched out (not sure what it is called)at the front? I have never had to do/had anything done to my boots before so I am driving blind and would appreciate some advice from the experts on here.
If they are to be done, how long does the process usually take?
I am geographically isolated living in country NSW and will not get to a ski shop till Cooma the night before we travel to Thredbo for a week late next month.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mick

where did you get the boots? probly best to get them altered where you bought the boots...

I'm no boot fitter, but punching out around the met heads is what paul did for me when i had a similar issue...

The boots are from a store in Sydney rednut where I purchase most of my ski gear. The boots have always been fine but i noticed a bit of discomfort just recently. Unfortuantely being a 5 hour drive away, it is not viable to go back to the store where they were purchased before we head to the snow. If worst comes to worst and I cant get them fixed I may have to buy a new pair in Cooma, Jindy or @ Thredbo this year.
I am pretty sure they can be punched out though. Was just wondering if it can be done in a short period of time or they need to be left for a while?

Would depend on how busy the shop is...

Shouldn't take too long to punch out a small area... but if the boot fitter is flat out it might take a little longer, and cost a little bit to do

A 10 minute job for a bootfitter.
In the meantime take out the liner and try just the liner on see if that hurts the little toe without the shell, also check inside the shell to make sure nothing has built a nest over summer.
You haven't had an injury to that foot since last time you wore the boots.

Thanks Paul. Will do.
No, I havent had any injuries to that foot since I wore them last. Maybe they have always been a bit tight there and I have never had the sense of mind to notice it!!
Cheers

If they haven't been worn for ages they might have just settled a bit too... especially the shells change shape if they've been too hot/too cold. Especially if you put them away with them done up too tight.

Just wearing them around a bit will probably help, in addition to what Paul said.

Thanks Brumby Jack.
Any good boot fitters/repairers in Cooma, Jindy or Thredbo you can recommend?
