View Full Version : Body Armour
after cracking two ribs and warping the cartilage between another two (all in seperate incidents) i've started thinking about getting some body armour. usually i'd just go out and try on a bunch of different brands / styles, but it doesn't seem to be a product that most shops stock a wide variety of.
so, does anyone here actually ride with body armour (or know of anyone that does)?? if so, what brand / model are you using, have you found it helpful and is it comfortable??
paul, are there any brands or models you could recommend (i'm after full torso protecion - something more than a simple spine protector).
my battered ribs thank you :D
You talking MTB, snow or battlefield renactments?

Dainese make great gear, just check out any MTB shops.
Snow Princess has a pair of Dainese Boardercross shorts, they team up with her Gladiator Suit when she is MTB racing but she's never used the top for snowports. BTW, she only uses the shorts on snow for competing in Boardercross or Snowboard GS.

hmmm.....now re-thinking plan....instead of a whimsy online purchase i might have to track down some retailers so i can try a few before i buy.

You will note the dainese gear that BJ has posted has removable fore arm sections, that will reduce bulk!

No TLD gear in this household until one of the kids gets sponsored... way too $$$$ But that said it is VERY nice gear.
OK, they have a few shirts... freebies from TLD.
the dainese stuff is very exey, even more so than TLD gear (as far as i can tell) and it's proving very hard to get a hold of...the search continues!!!

Try ****in (http://forums.****in.net/) and check out their for sale section. Usually a lot of 2nd hand stuff for sale.
I don't know where you are looking if TLD is cheaper than Dainese.
EDIT:GRRR,... that censor is annoying, I knew it would *** the name but I didn't think it would *** the link as well. Starts with f and rhymes with barkin.net it's only the biggest MTB website in Australia, MTBA & CA do all their press release etc. on it, overseas race results etc.
They even have a FIKI.... a ****in Wiki :D for anything relating to MTB in Australia or the world.

compared TLD's "Descender Protector" (US$160) with Dainese's FULLCOAT W 1-2-3 (like the one you posted a piccie of - US$260). prices taken from respective companies online stores.
this is the TLD Descender Protector....

i would have thought that the comparison between those online prices would filter down to a retail level....unless retailers decide to mark up different brands at different levels.
another big difference is trying to find dainese gear in stores. i've been on the phone to the sole importer of dainese and he tells me that this stuff is few and far between (ie, they are not currently importing a lot of dainese gear into the country) and there aren't a lot of stores carrying quantities of stock at the moment. he told me that they don't import ANY of the dainese's snow specific gear at all...which is why i'm searching to buy online and basing my prices accordingly.
the importer did give me a few shops to try in sydney, but the first few i called had sold out or didn't have any small sizes left.

Ring Raw NRG in Thredbo, they have heaps.... Dainese, 661 and UFO.
I got the Dainese Snowboard pants by ringing Monza Imports in Melb (assume that is who you were talking to?) and they had some, but I had to buy through a shop. Easy done via Raw NRG in Thredbo. BTW, they sell ex hire gear as well.
Monza did say they don't bring a heap of snow gear in because nobody was buying it, so I was lucky.

yeah. monza dude said they had brought in snow specific gear a few years back, but it didn't sell so they decided not to do it again.
i think i've found what i'm after online and will hopefully be ordering it this evening.....but thanks a bunch for the links and info.

sixsixone make a decent set and they are pretty good value. I know BJ is not the biggest fan of their gear, but it works for me. Go to a motocross shop as I have found them to be cheaper than MTB shops.

in the above post he mentioned the word "garment" this would mean to me clothing ie not armour
or it could mean that he is a Wizard who isn't allowed by his characteristics to wear amour
although some believe Mithril armour made by elves can be used by magic users, but everybody knows you only ever wear armour made by Dwarven Metal Smiths ...... :nerd: graemlins/cold.gif graemlins/penguin.gif
